    try airtasker…

    or get another quote.

  • You could, but wouldn’t that mean you would have to pay the new specialist another set of initial consultation fee - which is like $160+ or more?

    • Initial consultation is 110 and you get back about$70 from medicare

If you don’t mind that, then i suppose you could always get another opinion and a quote on the extraction. The extraction cost does vary slightly.

Yep if they gave you an item number with the quote (usually 323 for an upper tooth or 324 for a lower one) then you can often call other surgeons rooms and ask for a quote for the item number and they’ll often tell you over the phone

          Ps $850 is steep

Usually around $500-600 for lower wisdom tooth extraction (but $110 is good for the initial consult)

  • $15 USD Cambodia $30 if you want them to sow/stitch in a dissolvable swap instead of leaving an open hole with a gauze to stop the bleeding.
    Thailand probably double that.
    10-20 minutes done.

I don't know if this is a serious reply . But i don't want to do dental work overseas

You forgot to add the extra $1000 to get there, get it done and get back.

  • I’m also from Melbourne & had mine extracted by Dr. Kai Lee(office in Sunshine, across from the hospital). My situation was similar to yours, being my bottom wisdoms were under the gums, impacted, almost horizontal and extremely close to the nerves.

He quoted me $450each for the top and $475each for the bottom, plus $550 for the anaesthetist and an addition $800 for the day surgery room

    • Hi it sounds like you got it done in the hospital under general anaesthetic?

I am just doing it awake under local anaesthetic in the dentist chair

    • +1 for dr Kai Lee too

Most surgeons will do extractions under local too which will save the hospital and anaesthetist fees

Thank you . Ill give him a call

    • Thanks for the recommendation. I will call him

If OP doesn't want anesthetic I'm willing to offer the service free of charge with my Ozito tools.

      • +2

I can offer a piece of string and a door. Extraction in 6-9 swings of door or your money back!

I know a guy named Wilson. He's got a rock and an ice skate.

No address, no cost, no problem

  • +1

You're lucky they're willing to do it in the chair so close to a nerve. I had a hospital visit and GA. Might actually be morecost effective if your excess is $500

    • The oral surgeon says its not that close to a nerve but general dentists are too scared to do it if it’s remotely close . So he said hes willing to do it in chair .

Ill check my hospital cover . But isn't the anaesthetic seperate to the hospital cost ?

  • I had an oral surgeon at the dentall hospital sydney for free. He had good capable hands

    • So a good yank with some pliers?

      • +1

        He was German.

    • What, Sydney has free dental?

      • Yes, the dental hospital

My son just got this done on Monday through the public dentist (my son is on the disability pension as he is autistic) so was free. Certainly wasn't an hours work LOL!! Few minutes and they were both out. The sewing up took longer than the extractions. My son is totally fine, has had no pain. He is off solid food and drinking from straws for two weeks as we don't want to risk a dry socket.

With wisdom teeth they will do two on one side as it will stuff up the alignment in your mouth if you get one wisdom tooth extracted only. The oral surgeon only did these two as the two on the other side were fine and not crowded, but the moment they give him any trouble we can come back and the will happily remove the other two.

My son got the extraction for the same reason as you, tooth needed to be removed (as there was a hole) and regular public dentisit wouldn't do the extraction as it was too close to a nerve. So we were referred to the public oral surgeon.

It was done in the chair, our appointment was 8am and we were driving home at 8.40.

But you will need two teeth out.

Goodluck, I hope you find your extraction at a reasonable price.

Very grateful for the public dental system in Brisbane. Fantastic service.

    • This is the first i hear of taking two out . I have only one taken out on the other bottom side and ifs fine

  • Just had my bottom two only taken out the other week.
$2000 to oral surgeon. This had to be paid a week bbefore surgery.
$950 to day surgery. Had to be paid on day of and before the surgery. (It would have been $1350 if surgery went longer than 1 hr.)
$420 to anaesthetist. This was an invoice sent after.
$200 initial consult to oral surgeon. (@$70 back from Medicare.)
    Plus antibiotics and pain relief.
    Plus 5 days off work.

    • Sounds like you went to hospital. Im not going to hospital. Extraction in dentist chair
