Dell refusing to honour 'Price Guarantee'

Hi guys,

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 13 with an i5-1240P for $1648.99 a couple months ago and it was delivered and invoiced less than a month ago.

The exact same laptop, but with an i7-1260P, is now $1383.99 on their website. There is absolutely no difference other than the superior processor.

I emailed them about this and they told me that because the model number is different by 1 digit they cannot honour it.

What should I do? Keep pushing or just give up?

Dell's price guarantee after purchase is for 30 days only. So you're already out of bounds for it.

Also, no obligation for different model. Doesn't work that way.

in short. OP username checks out

      • +15

Well is there a lower price for your Dell Inspiron 13 with an i5-1240P model?

      • Dell has some of the weirdest policies. They charge you a fee if you refund some models. Would like to side with you on this one but it's not the same model. If you didnt open it, you wouldve had better luck.

  • +5

They do that for a reason, so you cannot use it. Good luck but you are wasting your time.

    • I wonder if OP can pounce on this new deal, and somehow return his unit back.

Even if he had to pay a 20% restocking fee (AU$330) it might be worth it, as his new total would work out to be AU$1,713. That's like $64 dearer but you're getting the processor upgrade. And there might be a chance the restocking fee is lower, or even free. So might be worth a shot :\

    Trolling? Entitlement?…

  • It's a different machine …. ?

    i5-1240P ≠ i7-1260P

It's a different model and different spec. Move on.

I can afford it. It just hurts. The thought of spending more than $1500 on a laptop makes my bones chill.

I'm punting a members whinge post triggers a recall in spackbace's memory. He then proceeds to look through OP's post history, finds relevant contradiction and exposes OP's shitty argument.

I am yet to see an irrelevant research link from detective spackbace yet.

        Yes, that's my neg.

Shudders at your incessant need to look through peoples post history.

Hahaha… Ok, champ. There are two easy fixes for this. 1: Don't say stupid shit that you are going to regret onto a public forum with infinite memory. 2: Yet, better still, dont say anything.

What is creepy though, is following users around and making "that's creepy" comments every time they reference someone's history. History exists so people may reference what they have said or reference back to what others have said. It's an invaluable resource for both information and for the lulz. The only reason you would not want someone going back over your history is if you say a lot of stupid shit that you would rather remain hidden.

Oh, seems you have been called out on this before

We're going through post history of people who complain about post history. I like this meta. :)

          • +1

@Sleeqb7: It's a bit like the Karen we had at work who continually complained about hot chips in the lunch room as she hated the smell. Well, guess what we have for lunch every day now. :D

      • I get it. Some just work to find evidence to make the OP seem stupid, hypocritical, etc. Bringing back people's past words sll the time is not a way to have a convo. It's a way to feel smugg.

I think the problem here is spending $1650 on a dell with an i5

    • An Inspiron at that. It's their everyday budget range. We've sold similar spec Latitudes for less than that over the last two weeks.

I paid about $1700 for my XPS on special just over a year back.

Dell refusing to honour 'Price Guarantee'

    No, they're just different products.

  • +20

There is absolutely no difference other than a complete difference.

    D U D E

Ouch, I see where you’re coming from but unfortunately it’s a different product so it’s not covered by the price guarantee

  • +3

that happened with my alienware r14…
Got it delivered on a Thursday, day after it was 300$ cheaper.
Spoke to them and they gave me the difference with no dramas.

    • +7

The (big) difference here is that OP is trying to price match/guarantee their purchase with a different model.

    • Ring again and say that the PowerEdge XE8545 cost more so you want them to credit you the difference :)

    🎻

It's now 2 months since you placed the order, a month since you were invoiced and received the product.
They're well within their rights to release a new product at a cheaper price or reduce an existing product's price a month later.

Technology always becomes cheaper and outdated, it's the way it is. Nothing you can do about it.
Buy for when you want/need it and accept that there will be a loss.

  • +4

There is absolutely no difference other than the superior processor.

    Um, thats…literally a different product then…

  • +1

Do you also assume your $100 bill is worth $1000 since it's just one more zero? Let it go OP. They are different product.

  • +6

    Out of grace period.

    Not even the same model.

Accuses Dell personnel of being robots.

I wish Dell could tell that customer to F&%# Off, I would stand by them.

  • +3

Your laptop is priced the same now as it was 30 days ago, so how exactly do you want them to refund the discount amount of $0.00?

  • +3

    Click bait title.
It be like clicking on 'JB Hifi refusing warranty claim' and then in the body we find out OP originally bought it from Officeworks.

    • +2

But the good guys have the same colour scheme, and are owned by JB, so why not?

  • +1

wow I only paid $998 for mine 3 months ago

  • +1

The "exact same laptop", just with the most important component completely different. But that's cool.

  • The first thing you need to know is its likely to not even have the same internals as the one you claim is exactly the same minus one part.

Unless Dell have gone back to removable processors since I last opened one up the processor is soldered to the motherboard.
If it's a different processor the internals may not even be in the same place and other connecting parts may not even be in the same place inside the laptop.

It's a bit cheap to be demanding a new device months after buying it.

  • Within 30 days from invoice but different model so I wouldn't bother. Irrelevant if it's a better processor, it's a different model.
