Seiko 5 Sports SRPG63K $259 Delivered (RRP $525) @ Starbuy

110

Although the rest of the Dress-Kx line never grew on me, this concrete/lunar dial version really was a sight to behold in person. There's just something about how the dial changes colour and appearance based on the angle of the light and the matte sand-blasted finish of the case that's so unique at this price. Also, the caseback is also finished with that same matte sand-blasted finish, so it's consistent. I just had to buy one after I saw it in person.

"The Seiko 5 sports SRPG63K1 features the Seiko Automatic and Manual winding movement calibre 4R36 with an approximate power reserve of 41 hours and a daily time tolerance of +45 / -35 seconds. The case is 40mm x 11.5mm stainless steel with a Grey nylon strap that matches the dial. This watch has a water resistance rating of 100m and an approximate weight of 80gm. Additional features include a screw case back, a see-through case case back, 24 jewels and a day and date function.

What we love: The meteorite look silver dial is a real standout. A new colourway from Seiko that is sure to have the collectors excited."

  • Oof +- 45 seconds a day.

That would do my head in.

    • In reality, it's luck of the draw. I've got a watch with that same movement, and it is accurate +-10 sec per day. And you can make it more accurate by getting the movement regulated.

ive never had a seiko more than +/- 5 = even one i damaged by dropping it from waist height onto a concrete floor which screwed the rotor - it has a grindy wobble

be that as it may i find it hard to maintain enthusiasm for a $250 watch that has a cheap canvas strap, hardlex and a bottom grade movt. when the whole thing is made in china… seiko are having a laugh with this thing…

also bead blasting is the cheapest easiest way to finish a watch, which is why so much stuff is industrially bead blasted in factories etc.

I would be all over it for that face, if it wasn't for the weird sand blasted look they went for the casing:

    • Personally, I think it adds character to the watch, I've paired mine with a distressed looking leather strap and it looks great

      • yeah maybe the videos are not doing it justice. It looks fantastic in stock images. Some reviews also say there are good copies and bad copies of it.

Good price, but I recently bought a Seiko 5 (SRPD something). It is about 20 seconds per day fast. Would not recommend this line of watch if you're used to +/- 2 seconds a day. If you don't mind that, then it's a good buy!

    • The 4R35/6 movement can be regulated down to a lot less than that but out-of-the-box they can be hit and miss.

Edit. swapped calibrated for regulated (my brain uses both words interchangeably)

      • Oooo! How does one calibrate :D
I got sick of the time changing on the SRPD so went back to my old watch, set and forget baby!

        • Gotta admit, despite owning a couple of automatics currently (and a fair few before them), I’m loving my new Citizen Eco Drive (CA7040-85E). Quartz accuracy without the need to change a battery. My wife has 5 of them, one of which is older than my youngest (21), and they’re all still running. It’s really difficult not to like them.

@Orrelljet: Yup, Quartz is super accurate, from the cheapies all the way to the expensive ones, they're all accurate!

  • I recently bought the Seiko 5 SRPE57K. After wearing it for 9 days, my watch is about 3s fast per day.

The daily tolerance of +45 to -35s per day is the worst case scenario. YMMV.

Here's a video showing how to regulate an automatic/mechanical wristwatch. The mechanism he tweaked in the video is identical to my SRPE57K (I can see thru the exhibition case back).

No point mentioning RRP as Starbuy almost certainly has never sold it at that price.

Agree, was about to comment same. Price is good yes, but the full price on chrono24 is around $350 so not as big a discount as the RRP.
