In June 2020 5700XT was $550. It also didn't have it's 256 bit memory bus cut down to 192 bit like this model.
Different architecture. Less bus means nothing with infinity cache more that compensating. 6700XT well and truly outperforms 5700XT. 6600XT is much closer, but still slightly outperforms 5700XT. The only thing 5700XT performs higher than this in is Eth mining and only by a small amount.
These amd prices are so good, if only that meant 3060 ti would follow suite
Waiting for this to come down
Ah Christ this is tempting. I haven't got the rest of my rig yet, but the GPU prices were keeping me out of the game.
Why is it tempting? It's a mere $100-150 less than better models were 9 weeks ago.
It's $700 for an asrock 70 model. And this is the first card without 256 bit memory interface to be marketed as 1440p. In like the entire history of gpu's
Is there anything you'd recommend in this price range?
I'm looking for something atm but this price would be my ceiling. To be honest I'd buy this. Nothing comes close and it's the best deal currently. But we haven't even seen the biggest price falls yet. I predict $550 3070ti around August/September or a lot (sooner)
If you absolutely had to buy now a $435 rx6600 mech might not be a bad placeholder (sell 2nd hand then buy 4060).But this 6700xt would be better. Holding would be far better again.
@Jimmy77: Oh man, much better card but I can't wait that long… I have most of my parts now.
Yeh a place holder might be the play
@swingingudders: You could probably sell the $435 mech for $300 later then buy 4060 or the 3080 will still co exist.
If you screen is 1080p get the $499 6600XT mech that's all you honestly need. 1440p you'd want this 6700xt as a minimum
@Jimmy77: Yeh 1080p for now, will look at getting a 1440p screen later.
Thanks for the advise!@Jimmy77: Sorry, is it still 435 anywhere?
Or is that an old deal?@swingingudders: No problem. I'd get the 1080p gpu then if you don't have the 1440p screen now :)
RX 6600 - https://www.bpctech.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/48346/?gc…
The XT version is around 15% faster (it's around 5% faster than GTX 1080ti/2070 super at 1080p). I'd probably pick this one and be inclined to keep it for a couple years. It will run most games on 1440p screen medium settings.

If you scroll this list it has a good comparison between gpu's https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-6600-xt.c377…
@Jimmy77: I was looking at that xfx card.
Obviously not the priority but I really like the minimalistic black design.
Thanks again.
The fact this hasn't sold out in 5 minutes probably means prices will drop hard soon. It's a $680 3070
Time to celebrate. Even if some ozbargainers are desperate enough to clear it out of stock tonight overall demand worldwide has fallen. The 2 companies will try to rush out their new gens now to justify maintaining this price bar. There's also a reason retailers dropped this to $680 to begin with. They've seen no demand in the past couple weeks, they need a new gen or to drop prices.
I agree. Hardly any HODL meme crew anymore…
I'd say anyone who hasn't bought current gen by now is not interested, or is still not interested at this price.
Not to mention the many capable APUs that are now available for light/casual gaming.
Decent alternatives are coming down in price too like this MSI:

799.00 now ?
Pretty sure $680 is msrp. Can’t wait for these to drop further soon.
below MSRP in australia finally?
