New TV: PS64D8000 or UA60EH6000

Backstory:

Had my Toshiba 62" DLP Rear-Projection television die on me recently; after many tired to ressurrect it, she will be taken away to her grave.

Needs:

A BIG TV + EXCELLENT PQ. I have this TV hooked up to my PC to play all my movies & upscaled DVDs & all my consoles. It doesn't need to be 3D, or be a Smart TV or have apps (but I'll take them if they're there). 2 HDMI minimum. Needs to be a fairly low price.

What do you guys think?

Thanks! :)

  • I bought the 59 Inch version of the PS64D8000 and returned it
It has a Buzzing noise coming from it. They replaced it but it also had the same trouble
    so I returned it..

See this topic I found when arguing my case

The models now been replaced by samsung also

    good luck

  • D8000 is a 2011 model, EH6000 is a 2012 model. I haven't kept track of the recent TV releases so I don't know if the E8000 plasma is out yet, but see if you can find them instead as that is the 2012 model and D8000 replacement.
But of course you will be getting run-out clearance pricing on the D8000 that will bring it down significantly for what is a very food TV.

Also try Panasonic - not as nice styling, but I like their picture better. They generally do a better job at the things TVs should be doing first and foremost (i.e. good PQ as opposed to good looks). I see Samsung as like Nike - lots of marketing, lots of style. Except unlike Nike, Samsung actually perform well sometimes.

Just a note re plasma v LCD (and LEDs = LCDs):
Movies - generally better on a plasma. Better darker performance, larger colour range.
Computer stuff - just watch out that you don't leave it static for ages on plasmas. Screen burn is a lot harder to do these days but is still possible. Also you might still get image retention (temporary) which is different to burn in (permanent).
Gaming - depends what you do. I find FPS and similar gamers like LCDs because it makes it brighter so you can spot people easier in dark shadowy maps. Everyone else don't seem to care.
