i dont think ive ever seen the B660 version sell for $270? Thats around how much you can usually get the Z690 version for (yes, with wifi): https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/motherboards/intel-socke…

its quite frustrating that the lowest CPU in the intel stack with e-cores is the 12600KF. if only the 12600F had e-cores, it'd be a perfect pairing with this board. I really feel if you're getting a K CPU, you should be pairing it with a Z series board…

TIL there is e-cores. Was going with 12600F but now i have to research more stuff FML

if you dont need the e-cores then save your money and get the 12400F.

(Actually, i'd build a ryzen 5600 system instead of either the 12400F or 12600F. if you wanted to go up to 12600KF, really worth getting a Z690 board with it to unlock all OC features).

    • I thought intel were going to unlock overclocking for all mobos to compete with AMD. Is that something that was just hearsay?

    • Thanks for the comment on the K, I was about to buy the lower board. Getting a Z690 now.

      • Shame I've been negged by some faceless mong for giving what I think is perfectly level-headed advice!

    • z series boards and k series cpu are the obvious match if you want to overclock …..

i think the b series only allows memory over locking which doesn’t use up much power and allows the manufactures to save a bit on the VRM as they know cpu won’t be over clocked which can use more power ……

e cores and lack off is the fine print with gen 12 and which models got it ….. i want 12500 ….no e cores …..for me it’s office use not gaming.

As mentioned earlier this week - can grab the Z690 version of this board with the 12600KF for $557 + Delivery from Shopping Express.

Not anymore, their 10% sale is over. Great deal when its available though.

EDIT - wtf when i checked this morning the 10% sale was gone but its back! Definitely the deal to go for.

      • paired with the 6700XT deal for ~$690 its definitely a cheap upgrade.

  • Have the DDR4 problems been fixed with B660?

    • What DDR4 problems?

      • XMP profiles not working with gigabyte 12th gen DDR4 boards - its been a well documented issue

        • +1

Oh I’ve been out of the loop. Yes I have actually had issues getting an XMP profile to POST correctly on a friend’s gigabyte b660m gaming board about a month ago now.

          • @ChineseElectronics: Thanks! Yeah its not a huge deal I think you can get around it by manually setting your ram timings - but with other boards like the MSI B660M-A Wifi available at a similar price better to go that way - https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/msi-pro-b660m-a-wifi-…

@rocket142: Isnt the MSI mobo not as good as the gigabyte, doesnt even have an integrated IO shield, no usb C, optical audio, etc.

              • @ATangk: Stability is important too, guess depends on your preference.

            • @rocket142: this board is tempting as i was looking at ds3h AX and 12500 for office use …. $20 more but bigger heatsinks doesn’t say what wifi chip is used …..the ds3h i think is AMD …..have had good success with intel AC and AX wifi chipsets …..

            • @rocket142: I've been reading reviews of Intel 12th gen B660M boards and the MSI B660M-A Wifi seems to be the best. The worst B660M motherboard being the ASRock B660M-HDV and should be avoided. MSI does have other cheaper boards in there B660M range but no idea how good they compare as I can't see any reviews anywahere.

        • is it a bios issue …..wouldn’t be first time something is fixed with bios as bulk of chipsets are same across most brands for b660 so should not be a chipset issue.
