iPad Bought on eBay Brand New but Not Aussie Model

Hi,

Looking for advice about iPad bought from eBay. The device looked new and was shipped with a power adapter. That raised my supicous mind. Checked that the device is not activated yet - so it has not been used. But Apple support on the phone told me that the warranty already started more than 6 months ago and warranty is not covered in Australia.

Anyone has similar experience and I am looking for some advice. To make it worse the seller description said it came with tax invoice and I did not see one. Seller does not respond to any message so far.

I doubt if returning it is the best choice as the return address is PO Box.

Thanks.

Have a link to the listing or the seller?

    How was it sold? New/Used/Refurbished?

    • It said new in eBay description. Yes. Package is new and the iPad is brand new and I am happy with it. The only issue is that the model number is slightly different and entering the serial number showed that it is not activated with valid serial number.

Today I got reply saying that they provide 3rd party seller 12 months warranty while description on eBay seller said 12 months manufacturer warranty. Well I think I need to bite the bullet and hope that it will be doing fine with this grey import.

  • Did they make claims it was brand new and authentic apple Australian stock?

Gotta be careful of wording. Some grey sellers say Australian stock (as in , it’s located in some dirty backyard drop shopping dungeon in Australia, but stock is grey stock)

I also hope you paid using PayPal.

Good advice of using PayPal. Thanks.

  • I thought this topic and associated warning was completed years ago. Yet here we are.

Better off buying locally with discounted Apple or local retail chain store gift cards, etc.

    • I'm waiting for the response of "I didn't want to pay that much so I went with a deal I found on ebay" that probably had 50 red flags.

      • 50 red flags and 1 green light (price) is enough for most people it seems

  • Come on OP, don’t leave us hanging mate.

He'll be back once he's hit 'Purchase' on the Brand New iPhone from the same seller.

    • Sorry. Reply above.

  • Did it say OZ local stock or OZ warranty?

      • Grey import === NO OZ warranty by Apple in OZ.

  • Isn't Apple warranty, global?

    • No.

        Here you are MS Paint.

        • Welcome back

  • Now I am confused. The model obviously is a US model MK2K3LL/A.

I decided to activate it and later found out that the service coverage said that it is under repairs coverage.

On Apple website it said for my serial number:

    Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under Apple’s Limited Warranty.
Estimated Expiration Date: May 18, 2023
Our goods come with guarantees that can’t be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.

I guess if a US iPad is activated in Australia it is treated as under Australian warranty. It is all good based on this. Just to share some updates.
