LPE Just Emailed Me Suggesting I Find a New Electricity Provider

I’m a bit out of the loop on what’s happening in the electricity market,

But today I got an email from LPE that states
“The cost of wholesale electricity has gone up 611%”
“ we strongly recommend you seek an alternative electricity provider”

So with that in mind,
What’s the best option for electricity in Brisbane at the moment, are we all getting emails like this ?

    LPE?
    .

    • Electricity provider in Queensland.

  • What is happening to electricity ? I am with Mojo ( NSW ) and they increased massively:
    Old Vs New

    Service to Property 73.546 ¢/day 103.8070 ¢/day
    All Consumption 19.063 ¢/kWh 26.0027 ¢/kWh

If I search cheaper providers, they all seem to have a Demand Fee on top of the electricity fee. Makes it nearly impossible to compare prices.

Over 30% of Australia's coal power was offline earlier this month due to outages and maintenance, because our coal power plants are older than dirt and there hasn't been a sensible plan to replace them.

A certain party that enjoys bringing lumps of coal into parliament has failed to realise that it's far too expensive to build new coal power stations so no one wants to do it, but no one is investing in renewables either because the government keeps threatening to build more gas and coal themselves which would kill demand for renewables and hasn't released a plan to modernise the grid.

      • Not to mention Callide power station had a turbine fail explosively sending shrapnel everyware.

        Its called loss of reserve.

Everyone is investing into renewables just not enough storage.

Yup, we get spikes in the $thousands per mwh in the evening for wholesale, yet during the day the prices are regularly in the negative because there's too much solar and no way to reduce coal, it's ridiculous.

Batteries are expensive but still cheaper than the way we run the grid right now. It's why all the coal providers are sticking batteries in when they close down coal plants, they'll make easy money in the evenings and they've already got all the large scale connectors in place (that the government paid for originally).

      • Conclusion: govts are scrubs

Their current stock price (especially compared to the YTD) is terrifying. That's less of a 'dip' and more of an imminent insolvency.

They're probably right to recommend you jump ship to be honest. Geezus.

  • I'm in NSW. Got the same style of email from my provider too. Shopping around now. I looked at Momentum but the daily supply charge is too high. I can't find anything that beats my current provider:
Unit Cost: $0.1721/kWh vs Momentum $0.1918/kWh
Daily Supply Charge: $0.6437/day vs Momentum $1.04313/day

    Any recommendations for NSW?

    • In the same boat NSW.

I've come across Energy Australia No frills

      Usage (flat) = $0.242 kWh
      Daily supply = $0.726/day

For 500kWh (1 person) over 91 days, cheaper to go with EA.
For 1000kWh (2 people) over 91 days, cheaper to go with yours, Momentum.

Above depends on your postcode & usage. I'm still shopping around.

      • Interesting. We (2) average 12kWh daily. So 1,092 kWh in a 90 day period.

How did you do the math for the 500 vs 1000?

Thanks for this, let me know if you find something. I'll look up EA. And start an Excel sheet too.
