Any Plans with Free Incoming Calls While Roaming Overseas?

Traveling very soon across Europe/South America for 2-3 months and wanted to take advantage of dual-sim capabilities of the iPhone.
Ideal scenario here is to have my Australian number active for calls and use a local SIM for data/Europe calls - I'll be applying for jobs during this time so will be critical to be able to receive calls on the AU number.

Are there any plans that allow free incoming calls while I'm overseas? Ideally this is as low cost as possible of course!

Thanks for your help - I'm sure an OzBargainer out there has solved this problem before

If it was for a week or two I found Vodafone $5/day roaming good value for money as it gives you much better inclusions over Telstra's offering. However across 2-3 months even that would end up being quite expensive.

    What about this: https://www.onesimcard.com/international-sim-card/

    • Yep. planning to get something like this or just a local sim as my 'second sim' - but can't port my main number there unfortunately since they're not australian providers

Consider using a VoIP service linked to phone.

Wife is currently overseas with Crazyel Aus mobile number that can make/receives calls. She does it in the iphone app. Because its an app, just uses wifi or mobile data for calls. No roaming charges required. Much better value than roaming at $5/day.

    Crazytel Virtual Mobile Number $7.95/month

    • This is super interesting, but would need to keep my current number to make it work!

    Boost Mobile, WiFi calling. ~$150/year.

If you use it in an iPhone your Europe SIM can be the "WiFi" that calls are made over (in a dual SIM setup).

You will need to find an eSIM carrier though.

Not only can you take calls, but you can make them too.

    • My god this is a game changer - does it work for all MVNOs on Telstra or just Boost? Ideal scenario is I'm on a month to month plan, not prepaid (to take advantage of Citi credit card mobile insurance) but it's a secondary thought since I'll have travel insurance anyway

        Only Telstra/Boost.

      Isn't wifi calling geo 'locked'?

      • No! I was in Paris when i had to rang Qantas as they change our flights. Of course, it was a four hour wait in the queue to their call centre. Thank goodness for VoWIFI.

I had a spam call coming like this. I only picked up because it had the local area code of the place I was travelling (iPhone mislabeled).

        • Hi,

Is this service still active with Boost/ Telstra? Their websites say the prepaid roaming is not available and expected to enabled end 2022/early 2023.

          Thanks

          • @Danuk: Roaming is now available with BOOST
