Using School's for Advertisement?

So my daughter who is in kindergarten received a piece of paper to colour from school the other day (She goes to a private school) - it said colouring competition.
On the other side was this ad for a real estate company with the normal BS about how good they are etc and the list of prizes to be won for this competition and a long form with all our personal details to fill in i.e. name of the parent, contact number, address etc
Why do schools allow private company to market using school kids?

She goes to a private school

You have answered your own question.

    • My point is that private schools are already making tons via fees plus they receive funding from the govenment as well then why go for this advertisement garbage ?(https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/feb/16/priva…)

Private school, is for profit (a business), you can always change to a govt school, if that confuses concerns you.

        • Nek minnut we get a Dom Perrottet colouring in competition to win a carpark next to the school.

I think you'll find private schools are not really accountable to anyone. Private schools allow creepy churches to influence students, so private companies is not a bridge too far from that. You are free to withdraw your child at any time.

Those churches own the schools. You know that when you enrol the child there. You are asked to abide by the rules when you enrol. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other schools to choose from.

      • Free choice? What planet are you from?

        We are the Borg.

Private schools are run to make money so nothing to see here as they are making money by doing it. Move along nothing to see here that is not part of making money….

Also it's "schools", you only use an apostrophe when pluralising sounds when using single letters or single digit numbers.

    • Hey OP managed to get it correct in the body text, that has to count for some points right?

Sponsorship for fundraising? Nothing wrong with it.

    • a long form with all our personal details to fill in i.e. name of the parent, contact number, address etc

If the real estate company is collecting this private info for marketing and sales purposes then it is a bit of an issue IMO…

Isn't it a bit sad that drawing a house is as close that a lot of children will ever get to owning one?

I guess the small print is setting up a Super Fund, but dunno if signing in Crayola is valid…

    Real estate agents are scum

Yeah, it’s messed up. But welcome to free market capitalist education, brought to you by the corporate lobbyist controlled LNP

Everyone is talking about private schools, but not long ago the dollarmites program gave Comm bank access to kids under the view of "financial literacy".

In saying that, I am more surprised advertising in schools aren't more prevalent considering how far many companies are willing to go.

What did they say when you asked them?

  • +1

It's sad that these poor private schools need to be sponsored, how about we give them more money from public schools??

  • I've seen the same Easter competitions in state schools.

It's totally rigged; I've never won.

    • That is crazy talk…

(Why do you want to win a School?). lol

  • +2

Give them a break, real estate agents are struggling at the moment, they can't afford their 10th ivory back scratcher in the current market. They need to try anything they can right now.

  • Is this your first child entering the "schooling" system ?

RE advert may be a fellow parent "donating" to the school to keep your fees down.
And what does it matter - your kid aint in the market for a buying a house. Now if it was a Maccas ad I'd be concerned.

  • I think advertising is OK if there are no conflicts of interest between the school or the child's wellbeing (REA OK, McDonalds not OK). It's the collection of personal details from children for use outside the school that is unacceptable.
