Why my shopback only shows 8.5%?

        • Because the 15% / 17% promotional rates are from Cashrewards?

    • Same, I literally use this website to price match everything I buy for my cat!

  • +2

Worth a plus even though the small dog size I need is out of stock and can't be ordered :(

    • Can’t you just buy them for a bigger dog and cut them up for the same dose? That’s what I’ve done for my dog.

      • +2

I've thought about that to save money, but there are claims from the manufacturer that the active ingredients aren't necessarily distributed evenly throughout the tablets. Cutting one in half therefor may not have the proper dosage in each half.

I wouldn't be surprised if that claim is mostly bullshit, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it was true either.

        • +3

But if they’re not individually made and are made in batches that are then portioned, then that would imply each tablet itself wouldn’t have the same dose, if it’s not all mixed properly.

Edit: Plus, if the tablets are suitable for such a big weight range, I figure the dosage can’t be that precise. 30kg to 60kg on the biggest tablets is a big range.

          • @dealsilike: Yeah that was my first thought, they're probably made as one big homogeneous mixture and then added to a mold.

But what if some of the ingredients can't just be thrown into the mixture and have to be added by a separate process (say a liquid added by injection or sprayed on, or a powder added after forming the individual doses).

You'd almost want to hope that they do have to do something complicated like that during manufacture of the tablets given the high price they're charging.

        • +1

It is not rocket science. If you are worried about that then cut the tablet and mix into a paste yourself. You can even weight the dose if you like. All of these actions IMO is overkill.

Dosages are nowhere near precise with weights for ranges 30to 60kg.

          • +1

@pao2x: And how would I preserve the portion of the paste that I'm not using right now for at least a month, while being sure that none of the active ingredients will deteriorate during that time?

And frankly if I have to go to that much trouble I'm not sure it would be worth it for the money saved.

      • +2

I do this. Never had an issue.

        • +2

How would you know? The likelihood of requiring the active ingredients to kick in is low. Yourself in a parallel universe in the same time period who never used the tablets at all could easily have "never had an issue" either.

          • +2

@lordrupertliverpool: Main issue I guess would be overdose, as if it is unevenly spread one month would have more than recommended, next proportionally less. But, I've never had an issue.

      • My dog is 5kg, so would I split the 7.6-15kg tablet into thirds for the dose?

        • I guess look at the active ingredient dose for your sized dog, and give enough of the bigger tablet to match that. My dog is 25kg, and I have her half of one of the biggest tablets, but this is also not vet advise :)

          • +4

@dealsilike: Yes the active ingredients are perfectly in proportion to the weights. The unevenly mixed caution from the manufacturer is clearly a fickle attempt to get small dog owners to pay 10x for the very same active ingredients. As a comment above says, crush it up and mix it if you are overly concerned. A 6 pack for extra large dog breed would last one of those little French bulldog things years. Think of the extra tattoos you could get with the money you save. The only consideration would be the used by date.

Any OZBer that overlooks this clearly obvious hack should have a good hard look at themselves.
