How good is Coles Mobile? Any better alternatives of similar value?

Hi guys,
I have noticed that the value of long expiry plans on Coles Mobile is more worth it compared to providers like amaysim and woolworths mobile. Catchconnect also seems to be pretty cheap like coles. What are your opinions on these cheaper MVNOs compared to the more reputed ones like amaysim? If anyone has used coles or catch before, please let me know what your experiences have been like if you have the time.
Thanks

I used it, seem ok. Not a heavy data user so got the 70gb carry over from last year.

  • not good at-all for indoor use and even outside it didn't get much signal in Sydney … !

Been on Aldi Mobile for years. Data rolls over. Use wifi at home and work so data only used while outside -Waze, Spotify, YouTube. On Telstra network.

It's as good as any of the other MVNO's that use Optus.

I'm churning away from Coles mobile; my calls have started dropping out since about a month ago, at work and at home. My wife has the same issue now. It was fine before that. I don't know if it has something to do with their "repurposing" of their 2100MHz band.

    • Interesting. I and the wife are on Aldi mobile, and we've both noticed a big drop in service over the last couple months only. After zero issues for more than 5 years, suddenly bad call quality, calls dropping, not connecting, not being received. SMS not sending or receiving. I thought that might be related to the new SMS Scam Filter, but i turned that off and it made no difference. Aldi support wanted to know if i had airplane mode enabled on the handset… so i'm a heartbeat away from churning to Mate. Though i would not be surprised is the issue was the same on all telstra based MVNOs in the area. I'll have to do some reading about that spectrum repurposing because i hadn't seen that before, but it looks like telstra completed this last year? so probably unrelated to my experience.

      • Mate is same. I moved from Mate to Boost as Mate also have a big issue of call drops. Apparently all the companies now have this issue due to some unknown reason.

The value in Woolworths mobile is the 10% off one shop a month and discounted giftcards. If you're not using that then it's definitely not worth it, but personally it more than pays for my mobile bill in that alone.

  • Have used Coles and Catch, both were fine. Am on Boost now and haven't noticed any difference except when travelling to remote regional areas.

I recently ported from Boost to Coles Mobile. Did so as calls via VOLTE were dropping during peak times.
Coles Mobile doesn't have VOLTE or VOWIFI. At least with Boost, VOWIFi would save you if you walked from outside to inside. Optus is as stated by cobberboy repurposing their 3g network. As all Optus Mobile calls go by 3g I think their network is struggling with increased volumes (I am in a high growth new housing area). They are certainly not putting in more 3g hardware and the change over most likely is progressing faster than 5g uptake on their services.

I guess many users are not having issues yet. I for one regret locking in a service for 12 months that clearly is detiorating.

    • I guess it's a waiting game of how quickly Optus enables VoLTE for Coles, as the coverage for calls will be a concern in the meantime. It'll be enabled before the 3g network is completely switched off, LOL.
