Recommend Me a Sandwich Press

Hi all
Need a recommendation for a sandwich press
I love the Kmart one here

, except it's missing crucial feature number 2 below:

  1. Must be 4 toast press
  2. Must have a tab/sliding tab that lets me crank the lid only half closed (useful for open sandwiches (1 slice of toast with toppings on top)
  3. Preferably Ozb priced.

Thanks!

No. 2 sounds like a pan would suit you better.

Did you end up getting a battery or ring size increased? Would be nice if you responded to people when asking for recommendations.

Couldn’t agree more on the second point. I don’t know why any of us should bother helping OP when he/she never comes back. OP is a leech.

    • Apologies. That's inconsiderate of me. Not intentional. Just poor form on my end.

Battery - ended up with cheapie energizer non rechargeable
Ring - got it resized from local jeweller for $80

    Choice Magazine’s last test (2018):
    81% Breville BSG540 - $100
    81% Sunbeam GR8450 - $90
    73% Heller 4 Slice Sandwich Press SP031 - $49
    60% Russell Hobbs Sandwich Press RHSP801 - $60

Only the first two have lockable plates so you can set the height you desire

    • I prefer the Breville ones, as the height adjustable arms on the Sunbeam ones always broke for me.

My Breville Bsg520Bss is still going ok after 4 years (got for $56 on Amazon AU).

2 cast iron pans…….one to heat the sandwich and the other to put on top of the sandwich to press it down.

Good timing. I used ours today so it was still on the kitchen bench and had just finished cooling down. Flipped it over to get the details - Sunbeam GC7850B.

Ours would be close to five years old now and has been an absolute workhorse. Yes, it has the lid height setting thingo.

when i use a sandwich press to toast an open sandwich.. i just put a small diameter cookie cutter in there to stop the top from touching the sandwich.

i do this because my sliding tab thing broke, quicker just to use something to prop the top up.

  • I've had the Breville BSG520 for years, it cost about $70 at the time, no complaints and the non-stick surface is still as good as new even though I often use it to cook things like chicken schnitzels, nuggets, and the likes… I assume the 540 4-slice version is just as good…

Edit: this Breville is really just a sandwich press, not really a grill, the grill type like the Sunbeam mentioned up the page may be more multifunctional?

  • Thanks a lot
Breville and sunbeam option both are ~$100 and look the same except one is grill and one is flat top.

Will decide between these two. You made my work light. Thanks a lot
