    Q1. No
Q2. One soundbar. Soundbars contain multiple speakers.
    Q3. See answer to Q2.

    • Q1. YES. Onkyo soundbar on a TCL TV.

  • You're weird. Soundbar is a bar with speakers.

  • TV outputs don't supply power, so passive speakers won't work.

So you either need a soundbar (which will require power) or passive speakers plugged into an amplifier (which requires power).

  • It is certainly possible to buy speakers that don't require an extra power supply. They are powered by a USB port on the computer. They are called "USB powered" speakers. USB speakers are something different, they get the audio data stream out through the USB port they are plugged into. I've bought USB powered USB speakers in the past, but couldn't find any when I looked recently.

The problem with powering speakers from a USB port is that a USB 2 port doesn't supply enough power for anything more than small speakers. Certainly not enough for a soundbar. That could be overcome by designing them to require a USB 3 port, which can supply a lot more power. But I haven't personally seen speakers or a soundbar that have been designed that way, even though USB 3 is everywhere now.

What I do is have my monitor connected to the PC using DisplayPort with the audio data stream going out on the DP connection. And the monitor has a 3.5mm audio out and USB in and out. So I plug a set of speakers into the monitor's 3.5mm audio out connection, and power them from one of the monitor's USB out ports. So the monitor's power supply is powering the speakers. But they are quite small speakers.

That's a long winded reply for something that won't work on a TV, as the OP has requested…

  • How is your tv getting power? I presume for some reason you don’t have access to the power cable for a double adapter?

  • Does the tv have a usb port and headphone jack?

Bought one of these for my dad to use on an old Aldi TV that had incredibly terrible sound.

To my surprise it was a massive improvement!

Cons however, the flashing lights had to be taped up and it always powers on in bluetooth mode so it has to be switched to line-in on every use.

    • Depends on the wattage. Likely most TV USB ports are 500mA. Cheap soundbar like this for instance wants 1A.

Most TV USB ports can't even power a Chromecast w/ Google TV
