ASUS Radeon RX-6900-XT TUF Gaming GPU $1399 + Delivery @ PLE Computers

710

I have been shopping for a new GPU and settled on a 6900XT as it seems to be cheaper than pretty much all the Nvidia RTX3080 flavours right now.
PLE seemed like a good option as they had numerous stores with stock and free postage options.

There's also 1.3% Cashrewards cash back:

CashRewards Link.

PLE also seem to be participating in an Asus $250 cashback, if you buy a participating Asus power supply and GPU.

Asus cashback Link

For those on the fence, the anticipated price drop after the 6950XT release hasn't hit yet.
There's also Nvidia's 4000 series not too far away, so you may want to HODL.

so basically the rebate = 50% off for overpriced ROG PSU?

      Hijacking for PSA:

Crypto market just took a HUGE dive.

ETH went from 4k to 2.6k (AUD) in the last week:
      https://ethereumprice.org/eth-aud/

Mining is already less profitable than selling the cards and prices are still in freefall.

Unless there's an unprecedented and miraculous recovery out of nowhere, second hand GPUs will flood the market and drive prices well below MSRP over the next few weeks/months (going by what happened in the last few crypto crashes).

When I first started reading I was ready to neg what I thought was a shameless crypto advert but no…
Thank you that information! Sounds promising!

      • +3

Mining difficulty has also skyrocketed (which is normal over time)

      • A compounding effect as people will start to exchange their currencies.

  • Same price at JW.

    • +1

Yep, I was considering buying through them.
I haven't purchased through either in the past, so can't vouch for either.
JW did have cheaper postage costs, but stock was only at at their supplier.
This (presumed) additional handling/freight time and their lack of CashRewards pushed me towards PLE.
HERE is the JW link for those interested though.

  • So tempting.

    • I know, Soo cheap. I would have definitely bought this if i didn't buy my 6800xt red devil 3 months ago.

Maybe not this one but one of the 6900xt models.

  • The 6900XT from this deal or the gigabyte one from this deal?

    • +2

The Asus one its a higher quality gpu

      • Thank you. What makes it a higher quality GPU?

        • +1

Essentially it has an overbuilt cooler that does an excellent job cooling the GPU and ram. If I recall correctly there's nothing particularly special on the board itself but it has been a while since I watch the reviews on it.

        • +1

Usually better cooler, better bios and the components on the board like power delivery etc.. i can't say for sure this is a better build quality but chances are that vs gigabyte cards it is a better build.

        • You want the best cooler you can afford.

    • I got the Gigabyte One and its great so far.. One thing interesting is the Gigabyte has 3x 8 pin power connectors this says 2…

      • I also bought the Gigabyte one. I'm very happy to have done so, as the extra 44mm length of the Asus one would not have fit in my case.
I am not certain about the difference in power delivery (Asus TUF quality vs Gigabyte extra 8pin), but I have BIOS modded my Gigabyte to 330W (up from 264W). The Asus comes stock at 272W, not sure if it could go up to 330W. Happy to hear from others who have BIOS modded their cards.

    Basically MSRP, converting back USD.

    • Does Australia not have its own msrp?

    • +3

Actually below MSRP, since US MSRPs don't include sales taxes. On the other hand the MSRP was overpriced to begin with.

      • Ackchyually…
Brace your wallet for the Radeon RX 7900/7950 XT cards. XD

  • +6

6950XT is out so I'd be expecting some discounting to clear old stock

    • Yep, this.

    • +1

They're going to be running them in parallel I believe. The RRP of the 6950 is us$1099…so a bit above this, for no material performance boost. I don't expect a crash in the price of the 6900xt really.

      • What benefit then is the 6950?

        • +1

Its still faster than 6900XT for a little more money. Just following in the nvidia's Ti footsteps.

    • More likely for the next gen as well.

  • +1

I want to hold on till next-gen cards drop. Its only a few months and I am willing to wait that long as these cards are now a couple of years old, unless I can find one new and dirt cheap. Only thing I am worried about is that the newer cards seem to be heading the in the trajectory of gaining every bit of performance by just turning the amount of power usage up, and with a 750w psu, I am not sure how many gpus from the new line up of cards my PC will be able to handle. I have a touch decision to make of buying or holding out

    • +2

      Its only a few months

Probably gonna be closer to a year, unless you get lucky. Availability is going to be very limited initially.

I'm worried about the increased power draw as well, but we'll have to see what it's actually like on release.

      • I'm worried about the increased power draw as well

I would probably just get a 3070ti or 3080 now to avoid this issue, but the other problem is the current gen Nvidia GPUs don't have enough vram in my opinion. I want something that I know I won't have to upgrade for 5+ years and I just don't see that happening with the current gen cards. AMD is definitely better but they struggle in other areas such as FSR vs DLSS.

  • +2

Man if I don’t need CUDA I would defs take the bite

    • What are you using the CUDA for?

      • Deep learning

        • +9

What have you learned so far?

  • Got a few questions to someone who knows a bit more about this, trying to decide between this or a 3080.

    1. How nice would this AMD card play with a shield tv pro? Just got a 240hz projector would love to be able to stream games to my shield at 1080p 120.

    2. New house has off-grid solar with a big ol battery back, which card would be better for mining on sunny days?

    3. My monitor supports G-sync, how much better is the G-sync experience?

    Thanks!!

    • +4

sounds like 3080 is perfect for you

    • -2

this has crappy 60mh/s ish. 3080 is now 100mh/s. the evga ftw3 3080 has gone up now @BPC.

      • -3

Aww does it, it's like you think everyone buys these to mine 🙄

        • Did you read what he's asking? bunch of gamer kiddies. lol.

          • @[Deactivated]: Talking smack about low level investments? Buying a GPU to mine doesn't bring in the wealth.

            • @FabMan: 50 GPU does. ask @maxhashrate.

              • @[Deactivated]: Doubt anyone is buying 50 GPU's online from retailers, unless they are idiots for not trying to arrange a bulk discount.

                • @FabMan: its bulk discount, from suppliers.

    • +1

An NVIDIA GPU performs better with an NVIDIA shield as you can use the NVIDIA game stream feature otherwise you have to install steam on the NVIDIA shield and use stream link

    • +1

Built in NVIDIA software is better to stream to the shield and requires an NVIDIA card. I personally felt like the input lag was too high for most games and then for slower games you notice the visual quality. I'm picky though.

Steam link works well but if you don't have the game on steam you'll need to setup something like parsec which is decent but everything feels fiddly and you probably need to keep a keyboard\mouse around.

      • Hopefully the latency is not too bad, got everything wired up with GBE, will mostly be for multiplayer games with the missus on the couch.

        • What's gbe?

          • @polol: Gigabit ethernet

            • +1

@Lofty248: Yeah I mean the latency isn't awful. Just noticeable if you're playing a reflexive game. Ethernet definitely helps.

Read today that AMD's next driver update coming late May has some impressive performance gains in DirectX 11 games on 6000-series cards. This card is a beast, about to become beastier!

    • Deathloop update with new dx11 drivers due tomorrow USA clocks.

    • +2

Its double digit only in handful of games and only ~7 percent in rest of the few games. Still not bad. Fine wine as they say.

  • +1

Slightly better version of this card (TOP edition) for the same price: https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/tuf-rx6900xt-t16g-gaming-…

    • But you miss out on the 1% cashback ($14) you'd get from ple. I think TOP only adds RGB?

      • True. I don't know if the RGB is different, but it is clocked slightly higher.

    • This is what I did after dropping into PLE to ask for a price match and denied.

  • Couple of months ago we were told holding was a joke, GPU prices were going to soar in two weeks, and crypto prices are only going to go up.

I wonder what other advice those expert financial advisors have to offer.

  • +2

    Amazon has price-matched - Only 1 left.

    • Nice find!
      Gone now, price back up.

      • Still available on back-order - Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months.

        • Price went back up

  • A nice price for those who can't wait but I still can't bring myself to upvote any deals involving GPU's as they're still just deals for the desperate.

  • +1

For anyone browsing, these are available (sometimes the TOP model) from BPC, Scorptech and JW. all at 1399.
I'm interested, but if 3 retailers all have stock or access to stock and same price, there is a deal to be had for the 1st to drop the price $100
