Samsung UA46D7000 - $1,299 from Retravision in WA

90

I was in the market for 46" TV to replace my ageing Toshiba, I was set to purchase Sony's KDL46EX720, but then decided to stop by Retravision to browse and was ecstatic when I saw this…

Read up the features from the website, the SMART HUB is awesome and it plays mkv from USB too — THE ONLY DOWNSIDE, it seems that most of the panel suffers from bad LED bleeds, mine does too, bottom right corner is the worst, follows by the top left corner, the other corners are OK, but the awesomeness of the TV and the price far outweigh the bleeds

If you still don't get sick of it in a couple of months time, then you'll know it's a bargain. I would find that rather annoying.

    The review states

"One Design elegantly combines the bezel with the panel to create a seamless viewing experience that breaks the barrier between reality and what’s on TV."

What does this mean if you're watching reality tv?

  • good price…i paid 3.5k in 2010…46" 8 series…1.3k is very good price!

  • thats not cheap for a last year 46" model!
Sony KDL-55EX720 55" is available for ~$1,300 at JB, Clive Anthonys

    • Lol, show us proof who sells the 55 inch for 1300. I think you were looking at the 46 inch.

      • Yeah well i almost bought the 46" EX720 from the good guys, it was $1,049, totally different set as D7000 is 200hz unit and EX720 is only 100hz, plus all the extra stuff the internet bits, usb recorder, usb player, etc

      • What do you think would be an ok price for that 55" Sony unit?

        • If you can find them, don't pay more than $1,300, EX720's are very hard to find, especially the 55" and 60", there are only a few left in WA…

    • anyone actually picked this up for $1300?
looking at picking this one up and a receipt or link would be very handy

      • You cannot buy this for $1300 unless you use the 20% discount gift card.

  • My Conia plasma is a about 8yrs old and although it's not hd the picture looks very good, the new smart full hd panels are about a 3rd of the price I paid but is the quality as good?

      Yeah, Right.
AND it uses about 5 times the energy that this one does.
Apart from that how is the comment relevant?
I dumped my old LCD LG 42" and bought one of the Samsung LED sets about 12 months ago, and saved about $200 a quarter in power charges.

      • +3

$200 a quarter??? Are you dreaming, it's not THAT much difference between Lcd and Led. Even if you left it on for 24 hours = 5kw (.22kw max per hour) x 90 days = 450kw / 20cent per Kw = $90 Appox total running cost

        • +2

Apologies that should have been $200 a year…
          I pay $0.28 a KWh.
The LCD used about 600W The LED 150W @ 5 hrs a day usage.

      • Does a LED really take 4x$200 a year to run? = to $1000 to run!

        • +1

An LG 42 Inch LCD uses .22kw an hour to run, even at 28 cent per KW and 5 hours a day it would only cost in total about a $100 a year to run. Not sure where bluegrass is getting the $200 from…

        • That is saving $200 a year.
The 42" LG LCD I had was one of the early ones (more than 7 years ago) and it was rated at (from memory) 2.5 amp they did not show a Wattage. It was the only reason I got rid of it.

      • "I dumped my old LCD LG 42" LOL… have dumped several "dead" Samsungs.. Our 4+ y/o 42" LG LCD is as the day we got it.. brilliant. Better than the panasonic plasma we got free to replace our panasonic plasma that died as well…

  • Anyone could recommend a 46~50" none-smart LED TV?

    • Panasonic are the best, followed by sony and samsung…. Start there

    • Sony 46" EX720 you should be able to find it for around $1,000

    • LG LED & they come with a standard 3 yr factory warranty unlike the 2 recommended here that only come with 12 months.
Also check out the Sharp led sets with quattron technology… best pic i've seen on a big screen yet. Also factory backed with a 3yr warranty.
For picture quality those two are the best.

Go to a large av repair store if you want to find out which is the best set to buy these days.
I went to one recently when i was sorting our my dead panasonic plasma and they had faulty sets stacked to the roof… the brands to avoid were there in their droves.

@djvkool, yeah ok great price, BUT! you didn't even bother to haggle?

    • nah, after I saw that I quickly checked shopbot, myshopping, and staticice and none came even close to that, so yeah I just grabbed it and went home…I know I should've at least try haggling…

…and true Panasonics and Plasmas are still the benchmark, love 'em got one, have reccommended a few to family and friends, they are happy, a few friends went the LED/LCD route and are not very happy, I know, Iseee the diff and it makes me laugh. stick with Plasmas and don't be a tight ar$e about the extra $60 a year it will cost to run! geeeeez!

    • True, my main TV is Pana plasma 65" VT20 which I think is the best display, period! the blacks are perfect, BUT this is for my bedroom, and plasma TV is like a heater, they get warm and heat up the whole room…

      • The new ones are no longer room heaters and use less power than a lot of lcds.
It surprised me too. Prefer to watch a good lcd though.
Some makers produce great lcds and others are poor indeed.

    • I'm with you Jim. I bought a THP50S20a about a year ago, delivered with extended 6 year warranty for under $1000, and couldn't be happier. It doesn't have any extras built in, but my WDTV Live handles all my media playback, and doesn't run the external USB drive all the time. It's a great picture, and has a 5 star energy rating - we won't be upgrading until it dies.
