Where to Buy Kiwi Knives in Sydney

Not strictly food - but it is prep of food :)

Kiwi knives are great value but neither of the Asian supermarkets I frequent has them. Where in Sydney can I get them? Looking at getting a couple of cheapies for the girlfriend whose knives are shit.

  • Plenty places online. Does it have to be local shop?

    • Probably not, was just hoping to drop in over the weekend.

  • …but neither of the Asian supermarkets I frequent has them….

    And where are those supermarkets?

I see then around Bankstown asian shops every time I go. They're everywhere in Cabramatta also - particularly around those that sell fruit out the front!

    • Blacktown area. Two there, neither has knives.

But if can't find anything around this area (Hawkesbury) I'll wait until next time I'm in Bankstown.

      • I get my kiwi knives from Blacktown. Near the station
Asian grocery with a seafood/butcher section.

I think it's called Asian Food Market Blacktown

        • The one on the RSL side of the station? With almost no parking lol. If so that's where I normally go. When did you last buy knives from there?

          • @tonydav: My bearings are poor but I last bought less than 3 months ago. Usually about $2-$6. They're tucked away in a corner.

Easiest way to describe is if you start from Kebab Express, and work your way down that road, and left on the roundabout.

            Cheers

            • @activ8newbs: That's not the same one I go to. I go to the G&L one. I'll try the one you mention. Just down the road from my office.

              Thanks heaps!

Wow I didn't know there were knives worse than kiwi knives. You get what you pay for, a cheap pair can't easily be sharpened and won't stay sharp very long.

Anyways, try in the viet stores in bankstown/cabramatta if you insist.

    • I agree - you do get what you pay for. But in my experience they are excellent value. I have a cleaver that cost me about $15 and it's brilliant.

The metal is fairly soft so you do need to use a steel every time, but then I do that with my expensive knives as well.

    • I use a Kiwi fruit knife for stripping wire. It's great.

Also have a Chefs knife that retains its edge very well

No offense but these knives look bottom of the barrel. Why don't you invest and get her a half decent knife set? Or at least one good knife that she will use.

Don't knock the kiwi knives! The thin blades make them awesome fruit knives!

    • nah mate, these knives are like razors, thin blade and sharp as, you buy them for like $7, use and abuse them, then just buy new ones

    • Echoing above, these knives are great and are more than enough for most people. They are easy to sharpen and they get very sharp. They are not for show but for practical purposes they are excellent

Great knives. I bought 2 as an interim purchase until I could afford something decent. 4 years later I can't see a reason to "upgrade"

  • Discount variety shops in Neeta centre and Fairfield forum have some kiwi knives..also some other interesting looking cheap knives.

Must have been a while since you've been to Fairfield; Neeta City isn't Neeta City any more

Might as well go Cabramatta ten minutes away and go get the knives there

Thai Kee IGA in Market City (Haymarket) sell them

  • Haven't checked, but last time I bought some was on Ebay. I find they are a very good knife for everyday use.

  • Asian Grocer's in Kingsford stock Kiwi

  • Asian grocery shop is where I bought mine
Plenty in places like cabra, Bankstown or hurstville if you're in nsw
