Telstra to Open up Its 5G Network

Not sure what there is to discuss about this, but there are regularly comments in the forums that people want a 5G plan, but they are only available through Telstra, Optus and Vodafone directly, not through the MNVOs that use the carriers and often often better deals.

Well, now, if anyone hasn't seen them, there are reports in the specialist media that Telstra is planning to open up its 5G network from July. So watch for the bargains.

SpinTel has been offering 5G plans through Optus for some time now

If Only Amaysim followed suit, though our house is in an Optus 5G hole. :(

      • Mine is also in an Optus 5G hole, created by Optus beamforming the signal from the local tower to not provide 5G to the part of the residential part of the suburb where all the customers are. I'm so close to the 5G zone that I can get it by going out into the back yard. Unfortunately Vodafone uses the same 3rd-party owned tower and its the same. I'm pretty sure it isn't the case with Telstra, but 5G from it, directly, costs more than I'm willing to pay. So here's hoping.

        • We're just inside the Optus circle, but on the Edge. Telstra

Same stupid idea like Tesla opening superchargers to all bogans.

  • I think they still have not yet rolled it to all carriers,

    or have they ??

In particular only interested in Woolworths mobile, and Boost ?

If they have actually activated for all MVNO carriers I might ditch coles mobile

    5G speeds to slow down in 3, 2, 1…

    • I'm sure they'll prioritise Telstra customers before MVNO customers.

      • I remember on the analogue phone days, there was a number you put in when programming the phone, between 0 and 9? This gave some people priority. If a customer have you a hard time etc, you would give them a crap priority.

        • Objection : Hearsay

  • Telstra should open up the 5G for all their prepaid plans before the mnvo.

  • I think it's already available via Boost?
From my experience with Telstra postpaid the 5G+4G network isn't amazing (in Sydney metro) anyway, not sure what the fuss is about.

  • I’m in boost. Been in Sydney CBD and no 5G on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. How long you been in boost?
