Self Employed Lover of a Bargain

As a self employed person, who's not getting paid for their time thru the day, I find I spend a lot of time on OzBargain like a lot of us haha.

I spent 2 x 15 mins surfing spotlight today over 2 sessions after I was rudely distracted by a client to save $10 on a voucher when only 3 weeks earlier I forfeited a $10 birthday voucher as I didn't need or want anything and it wasn't worth my time to drive to my local.

How do you balance this or after all this time do you just submit to the addiction? What have you spent the most time on that ended with nothing?

If you're not getting paid each day you're not self employed, you're self unemployed.

    • Depends how big the paydays are

Self employed people do not get paid each day they are paid for a job and I am paid quite nicely thankyou…

  • Prioritise. If you could be earning money, exercising or doing some else useful with your time saving $10 is actually costing you. Only browse for bargains as a hobby/downtime when you’d otherwise be doing nothing.

In terms of self control I guess it’s like anything else, set goals of what you want to achieve and why, structure your time, set limits. If you’re self employed you may want to network with others for motivation and accountability.

As an aside the $10 spotlight vouchers aren’t that great, they usually have a minimum spend of $20 or more. I personally stick to the ones where the minimum spend is the same value as the voucher.

Work for someone else then you get paid while browsing ozbargain. Win win.

Bonus points if you browse while on the toilet during work hours.
