Recommend Me a Battery

Hi guys,

I don't think I've ever purchased a battery. Remote controls are pretty much the only thing I need batteries for, and that too, I've never really replaced them myself…usually another family member does.

Now I need some batteries for TV remotes, some new LED Candles and AC Remotes.

Eneloops seem to be the favourite. But do I need them over cheap energiser non rechargable batteries? Would you recommend I splurge on the eneloops so I can benefit from recharging ability, or just use disposable energizer batteries for my application? The regular non recharable energisers seem to me much cheaper compared to eneloops

Thanks

Rechargeables are better for the environment.

IKEA LADDA rechargeable batteries are widely thought to be rebadged Eneloops.

Get a smart charger for them. Liitokala is a cheap and good quality one.

    • +1 for the IKEA LADDA. Great to have in the kids lamps and toys around the house.

  • Rechargeable batteries are much more economical in the long run but require a larger upfront investment and you need to account for recharging - either have some batteries in reserve or else deal with not being able to use the device for a while they recharge
For high energy useage devices like remote control car, game controllers, wireless mice, lights or anything that goes through batteries quickly then it's definitely worth the getting rechargeables as the cost of replacing with disposables will quickly cost more than rechargeables.
For low energy use devices like TV remotes, it might be worth getting disposables since you should only need to replace them every few months and forget the hassle
It would probably still be more economic to use rechargeable even in low powered devices but their getting it's worth will be much longer

In my experience TV remote batteries last for years.

For dumb remotes that is definitely the case. For programmable remotes with a backlit display, you'll churn through them a lot quicker.

I wouldn’t bother with rechargeable for remotes etc. they last such a long time it’s likely they won’t take a charge or you’ll have lost the charger.

    I don't think I've ever purchased a battery.

I'm pretty sure you would remember if you had. One of life's great milestones.

    Reccomend Me a Battery

I can recommend something else but then others would just hate on me for being rude.

  • My rule of thumb is that if I need to replace the batteries every couple of months or more often (eg, Wii motes), I would go for rechargeable. Exceptions for 9V batteries (never found a good rechargeable) and my electric razor which has eneloops. LADDAs are also good - some say they are rebadged eneloops.

You can't be serious with this question. The cheap ones don't last aslong as the expensive ones. Buy good batteries for items you consider important, crappy batteries for items you don't care about. Honestly it really doesn't matter what ones you buy. I bought a pack of rainbow eneloops when I first joined ozbargain like 15 or so years ago (no long how long it's been around) but they are still in their packet LOL!!

Don't be afraid to try different brands and different products, nothing bad will happen. They will all be OK.

    • cheap ones are more likely to explode sooner in my experience.
Certainly not a golden rule, but general observation.

  • Alkaline batteries from Kmart do the trick for me.

  • Aldi batteries

  • I would go for rechargeable as they're less likely to leak.

  • Eveready industrial batts here.

I did have some luck with hobbykings LSD (low self discharge) batts.

Also best thing every get a battery organiser from eBay/Kmart. My pet hate is trying to find battery's Ina draw or people that have a pile of mix matched battery's ina Chinese container which half are bat.
