Critique/Review This Pre-Built Gaming PC

Hi OzB,

How's your Monday going?

Can anyone please review this pre-built from BPCTech and help in purchasing my first gaming PC.

  • One of my main concerns is that I have never heard of the brands of some parts - Adata(ram), ASRock(motherboard), Kioxia(storage). Don't get me wrong, just because I haven't heard of them doesn't make them bad. Just want to know if these are reliable brands and if anyone faced any issues with their parts.
  • Another main concern is the PSU. If I remember correctly, Gigabyte PSUs had a bad batch where some of them caught fire. How do I know if this is from the bad batch? Or is that too old of an issue that those problematic PSU don't exist anymore?

This is my first gaming PC and I saved money for it with as much enthusiasm as a little kid. So, naturally I want to make an informed decision and seeking help here. Please review it harshly, excited for your inputs. Thanks for reading and replying.

I wouldn't touch that PSU even if it isn't in the supposed bad range, I'd ask for a Corsair or Seasonic or something or GTFO - also with a 3080 probs better to have an 850w anyway so I'd ask how much to upgrade.

    The other parts are fine…

Adata is fine for the RAM, they're seen as a "budget" brand but not like they're totally no name or anything. Being a higher end DDR4 kit is has to have decent ICs on it.

Kioxia = Toshiba, so that SSD is fine

ASRock is part of the big 4 Mobo makers for the DIY market, often viewed as the povo option and some of their low end boards are sus, but that isn't a low end board so it's fine

    • Thanks for detailed reply. I will ask for a change of PSU.

  • I used PC Part Builder's site to build a Ryzentosh system, a few years back. All worked out well, but I tend to look at Established brands I know like Crucial, Seagate, Gigabyte, but up until then I hadn't built a PC in 15 years

Admittedly, looking at the price, I would expect more names like them for $2800. Not knowing PSU's I would have chosen Gigabyte (unlike smashman42). LOL

  • Yep, I wouldn't recommend any Gigabyte PSU either.

    • any Gigabyte PSU

Okay, noted. I will ask for a replaced PSU. Probably Seasonic or Corsair, I guess.

      • Some manufacturers have a super long warranty on their PSU, Corsair / Seasonic / EVGA / Coolermaster all have a 10-year warranty on some models.
I'd suggest getting an 80+ Gold or above rating with the 10-year warranty model, you should most likely get one with good build quality.
