Ski gear in/around Sydney

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new jacket (and may possibly try to convince someone to get me some board boots). Whereabouts is the cheapest?

I am addicted to ski jackets, I buy 4 or 5 a season and without a doubt the best value is mail order from the US or UK. Most of the shops over there are having clearance sales as their season has just finished. Most of the shops here are just gearing up for the new season.

Some sites to look at are

Www.sierratradingpost.com. These guys are great, very reliable but have a look on www.retailmenot.com for a code to use at checkout, there are normally a couple of codes at any time but as of last night there was a 30% off coupon available

Www.outdoorsportsguys.com smaller shop but I have bought stuff from them before with no dramas.

Www.levelninesports.com. Very good and they have some Spyder gear on sale at the moment although it has been picked over. These guys would be the pick for boots although personally boots are a very personal thing to fit and you need to be careful getting the right fit. These guys have a great range of boots and skis and if you are ok wearing last years model they often have good skis for $100 ish. If you want to shop here they recently started a referral program, let me know and I'll give you my email address so that I get the referral kickback!

Watch out for Backcountry.com, great range and well regarded but overseas postage is crazy, you don't find out till checkout. Some others like evo and skis.com use a 3rd party mail forwarder. Complicated and expensive, the 3 I recommended mail straight to you and are pretty reasonable. If you have a 28 degrees MasterCard use it and pay in Usd as the 28degrees exchange rate is normally way better.

In terms of local stuff, Aldi has a ski sale as does Anaconda. You can get cheap jackets for $80 but you better hope it's not too cold and it doesn't Rain.

  • I looked on STP and found an awesome Burton jacket I like…but it only ships to the US. Do you know any way around this?
Also, it says $10 off for referring a friend, if you have a referral link I'd be happy to help you out.

P.s. tried to PM but you don't accept private messages.

    • Use a shipping foward company. You send the item to there US warehouse and the US company will forward it onto you. Thought it does cost a bit.

      http://www.shipito.com/

    • So sorry about that, I didnt know that I couldnt accept private messages. Just changed account settings. As the other poster said, you can use a mail forwarder. I use www.parcelsforwarding.com These are guys that will give you a US post address, you get the gear shipped there and then they post it on out to you in Australia. They obviously charge a fee for this. The best way to use these guys is to get a few things you need and have them combine the 2 or 3 packages together before sending.

Personally, with Sierra I normally just choose another brand. Burton enforce restrictions on shipping their stuff overseas, same as Spyder and Brooks shoes.

If you want to use the forwarder, there are great savings to be had on all sorts of clothes at www.6pm.com I have bought things like North Face fleece jackets etc from them for $30-$40, had them combined with another thing I am buying and sent out out to me here in Aust.
