Seeking reccomendations on storage containers

I have had to up-and-move at least every 1-2 years and this will continue for the foreseeable future. Hence a lot of my stuff is in disorganised cardboard boxes of various shapes and wear levels. Obviously some gets unpacked for actual ease of use but I have about 50% of my stuff that I rarely need access to.

I have decided I will be "re-organising" soon and hopefully getting rid of heap of stuff. But I also realised that I hate playing Tetris with the various boxes so they can fit in the cuboard.

What storage boxes do people find convenient and relatively robust? I usually store books, paperwork, board games, clothes, pans, everything needed for normal life, etc.

Thank you in advance.

  • Keji 50L Storage Box Translucent White $6.80

I personally haven't had any issues with durability but some other reviews say otherwise. ymmv

Keji are garbage they break very easily.

      • Yep. Similar level of durability to the Montgomery (brand) 50L crates sold at Bunnings for the same price. Instant landfill unless you're hoarding AIR for future use.

We purchased 40 crates in a variety of sizes/makes prior to a recent house move (in addition to the requisite the tea chest cardboard cartons) for the items we wanted to access/use in the rental house while waiting to buy our next home.

The only ones that did not end up with cracks (despite the kid glove treatment) were the Icon Plastics (brand) "Tuffman" crates and the Ezy Storage (brand) "Classic Grey" crates. Both of these seem to have sufficient flex to survive knocks and vibrations and structural reinforcement to survive stacking.

@OP - spend the extra and buy something that will last.

  • This range from Kmart has done me well for a few years

Loads of different sizes available too and many are on wheels if that is required. (If not, just pop the wheels off)

  • I have used everything from cardboard to the clear plastic tubs.

I ended up paying a premium for these with the intention of repurposing them in the garage once I was settled. I have found the black plastic lids to be less prone to cracking than the clear plastic.

When you consider a sturdy tea chest cardboard box can cost between $6-$10 with a limited lifespan through wear and tear its paid off after multiple moves.

I find the clear/translucent ones tend to have more brittle plastic. If you want longevity, pick something that can’t be seen through - Black etc. I’m sure it’s to do with the type of plastic, not the colour but not sure what plastic types each of them are.

  • Get your semi license, then get a pantec

  • Maybe a decent garage shelving unit will help you store/stack containers upwards, taking up less ground space :)
