Is This a Defect on The TV Screen?

I just bought this 75" Samsung QLED from JB hi-fi

When the picture is completely black (and backlit) there are cloudy spots. eg. Some areas are more bright than others.

When a show is playing you can't notice anything.
It's only when the screen is completely black or the scene is mostly black

Is this a defect? Or am I being too picky?

Just some good ol' fashion backlight bleed.

Guessing it's the Q60A? Seems to be a bit more bleed than the RTings test model, https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q60-q60a-qled , I doubt JB would swap it over though.

    • Yeah brother you are spot on, that is the model.(except the 2022 release)
So it's just part and parcel of cheaper backlighting?

It's funny on the RTNGS review they give it an 8.9 for black uniformity. 🤷‍♂️

      Oh well

      • Yeah you got a crap one, or Samsung sent a really good one to RTings.

Unfortunately this is just what cheaper panel are like. And ~$1700 for a 70" is a cheap panel.

In saying that, unless you stare at black screens a lot it is still an alright TV. I have a $400 50" el' cheapo TV I use for VERY occassional use, and my light bleed makes yours look like the best TV in the world, and I never notice.

Right here is a good example of why LG OLED TVs far outweigh their competitors and can't be beaten on picture quality. The pixels on an LG OLED are all individual lit and controlled compared to other TVs like this Samsung which have the standard backlight

Edgelight, and no local dimming. To be expected on a budget LED.
