Any 5G Plan Deals?

Dear Ozbargain hive mind,

Any advice on what the best 5G sim-only plans are out there? looking for something under $45 p.m. and at least 20GB data. In Melbourne metro and have an S22 Ultra. Vodafone plans seem cheap but not sure they have good coverage or speed. Currently with Telstra for $59, was previously with Optus on my old 4G phone but Optus had terrible download speeds during peak hours. Any advice appreciated. Cheers

        👍

  • Optus have a $45 month to month plan with 20GB on 5G network.

    • Or $40 for prepaid 20GB (1st month $15 and 3 months 50gb) but on a 28 day cycle

  • Is there free Wodka with the Melbourne rebel?

Spintel, which uses Optus, has 80GB on 5G for $40/m for the first 6 months, then $50/m. You can always look for something better after 6 months.

I found Spintel/Optus was a lot faster on 5G, when I could get it, than Vodafone, but Vodafone is faster on 4G than Optus. That's probably a matter of the band and tower you connect on, wherever you are. Telstra was just faster, but more expensive.

    • Thanks for that I didn't realise spintel offered 5G. I though all the non direct optus/telstra/voda suppliers were limited to 4G. That deal of $40 per month seems pretty good

  • What about boost? Get the $300 prepaid plan which can usually be bought on sale for about $230-$250 and that is about 20gb per month.

    Boost $300 sim.

    • Thanks but I think boost is 4g only. Looking for 5g plans

      • 5g is now supported maybe unofficially , i get 5g around Sydney and Newcastle as default on my Mi mix 3 5G. You can find a thread on here about it.

        • If you share a screenshot showing Boost and 5G that would be more definitive then a speedtest screen showing LTE Telstra (4G)

  • i would stick with telstra, there 5G is awesome and they have the most 5G towers too.
