Does this model have ECG ?

      • +1

        Yes and BP monitor.

        • But you can't use it in Australia right?

        • Anyone got the BP monitor enabled on their Active 2 or Watch 3 yet?

BP was released for Watch 4 in Aug, at the Samsung said older devices had to wait "a few months".

I'm still waiting for it on my Watch 3.

        • Oh! Wasn't aware. Thanks for pointing that out.

        • +5

          No Cancer diagnosis. Pass.

        • Thanks for the head up. It turns out I had a US version of the watch and you need the watch and phone to be from the same region to have BP monitoring.

I ended up changing the region on my watch to Australia and BP now works.

      • This feature may not be available in Australia but if you look online there is a way to change the region to enable this.

        • +2

I can confirm that this is now available in Australia since end of last year.

    • 11 hours and 15 minutes later. Still in stock

  • +3

Previous deals have been $199, so that's a pretty nice drop.

Did read good things about it when I was researching smartwatches before, but ended up getting the Watch 4 for WearOS and future support.

  • great deal

    • -4

They're dealing you a bad hand, so whats the big deal about this deal, there aren't great deal of features provided.

Sorry I'm just bored.. and I know user name checks out lol.. :)

  • +1

According to the editor's note in tom's guide review the Active 2 is being replaced by Watch 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 are being replaced with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, which has a refreshed design, a 3-in-1 health sensor for measuring heart rate, taking ECGs and reading body composition, and a new WearOS operating system.
This Galaxy Watch Active 2 will not get the merged software, but Samsung will continue to support it for at least three years.

More apps will be available on WearOS according to wareable review.

    • +6

For someone who only need the ECG and BP monitor, Active 2 is good enough for me plus it has longer battery life compared to Watch 4.

      • -2

Btw, the ECG made by smartwatches are fake, it only measures heart rate, the BP is unreliable.

        • +2

I have heard of GP's and cardiologists using ECG data from Apple watches.

I totally agree that it is nowhere near as accurate as a proper electrocardiogram and a blood pressure cuff, but it is a good reference point for people who need it.

          • +2

@Smithy000: Well it's not really an ecg. It's a one lead rhythm which measures Lead I.
And @ark94 it's not fake, Lead I is one of the 12 electrical leads we measure in an ecg.
I can still read all the pQrst complexes on it and have used it to diagnose my wife's ventricular ectopy

            • @maverickjohn: Are you a cardiologist?

            • @maverickjohn: It's not actually a single lead ECG. It actually doesn't measure electrical activity at all, which if you think about it , a single lead ECG is measure of voltage difference which need two points of references and a smartwatches only gives you one.

It actually uses light changes like an oxygen probe to try estimate blood flow, the time between the peak of each blood flow beat becomes the R-R interval. It plugs it into an algorithm to see if the rate is regular or irregular and fills in a fake sinus PQRS if it's regular, and a fake afib trace if it's irregular. It's not an ECG. It can't tell you anything other than the heart rate and whether it's regular or not.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: It does use two lead points. You have to keep your index finger on the crown as the second lead point.
Like I mentioned I diagnosed ventricular ectopy off this as well. You can also see prolonged qrs complexes.

          • -2

@Smithy000: WTF? no cardiologist who is charging anyone money is going to ask someone for their apple watch data. It's too easy to hook the pt up to a reliable and calibrated instrument.

Concepts such as medical ethics, professionalism, self respect, legal liability all start to enter the equation…

            • +1

              @ZilogX: Um yes they do.

              • -1

@maverickjohn: Well then that would be a good indicator of the quality of care you could expect.

Atrial fibrillation is a very small look into what the big world of cardiology is

                https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S105017381…

                • +1

@ZilogX: Um do you think that the rhythm only shows you af. Maybe it's more of a limitation of your knowledge and understanding

                  • @maverickjohn: I'm not the one who professes to be an expert, I just have two cardiologists in my direct family.

                    • +1

@ZilogX: Maybe they aren't aware of the rhythm strip it can provide and they just need to be exposed to it.
The perks of having that is that it's an ongoing telemetry potential, when patients are symptomatic, they have the ability to get an on the spot rhythm, which they can not do on a 12 lead ecg.

    • +3

Being? That review is from August 2021. Have the watch 4, it costs more, has more functions, battery is chit. This watch probably still has a market with people that would like a samsung watch but cannot afford the watch 4.

      • +1

Yes I have galaxy watch 2 and watch 3 can't really see any benefits upgrading to something ill have to charge every day instead of 3 to 4 days with what I have now.

    • +6

Next year. Watch 4 will be replaced by watch 5.

So unsure what point the review is trying to make?

  • Pity it isn't the bigger face.

Good price though. Nice one OP.

    • Yes I want some new face

  • +1

good watch, been using one for 2-3 years now, pay the little extra and get the latest watch4

    • +1

Yeah I have a Pixel 6 and been waiting for the pixel watch but rumours about pricing have me considering the watch 4 next time it drops to 250ish…

Versa 2 at 150 is tempting as well

      • How much will the pixel watch cost?

    • It's not a little extra though. The small watch4 is on sale (@JB) for twice the price of this deal.

      • +2

Probably referencing when Amazon had targetted deals for prime members last couple of weeks where the Watch4 40mm was $209

  • Picked one up thanks OP.

Wanted a smart watch to play Spotify offline while I walk the dogs and 4gb internal will be plenty sufficient.

  • Would this work with receiving SMS, WhatsApp, calls etc on a Google Pixel?

    • +1

Yep wife has one and uses it with her pixel 4

      • Works as normal with Google Messages also?

      • can you speak into the watch for phone calls? Or you just get a notification?

        • Yes you can speak into it for phone calls (normal cellular voice calls). Unsure about internet voice calls though.

          • -1

@nomadspartan: You can't use Active 2 for phone calls.

            • @Baby Noodles: I used to have the Active 2, and I clearly remember speaking into it for Phone Calls.

              • @nomadspartan: You probably have the LTE version. This one is the BT version.

                • +2

@Baby Noodles: You can still make calls if it's connected to the phone via Bluetooth

                • @Baby Noodles: It can be routed through the watch when connected via BT, just like you can route calls to your Windows PC from Android.

All Active2 models have both a microphone and speakers to make calls, with the first Active it had a microphone but no speakers so you had to pair headphones to it to receive calls which was a huge oversight.

                  • @brosk1s: Interesting, i've never been able to do this. I'd try to look around later on how to do this.

                    • @Baby Noodles: From your phone, when your on a call it will be an option alongside any bluetooth headsets & speakerphone.

                    • @Baby Noodles: It should be done automatically, it's one of the fundamental features.

      • How about signal or telegram? Would it work too? Thanks

    • -1

SMS, WhatsApp text is ok but you can't answer WhatsApp calls on it (at least mine says look at your phone screen to answer). Been using it for 2 years now. Pretty good watch overall.

  • Thanks got it!

  • +1

Whats the difference between active and normal galaxy watch?

Smart answers like "$300" will be ignored 😄

    • +31

      $300

      • +6

        ignored 🤭

        • +9

Wow some people .. don't pay attention to him mate !

          Difference is actually $299

    • +7

the active2 has a virtual bezel where its touch sensitive while the watch3 has a physical rotating bezel. other than that I believe they're identical internally. you can think of the active2 as the predecessor to the watch4 and the watch3 the predecessor to the watch4 classic

  • +1

Does it go well with iPhone?

    • +1

Yea it does, you just can't view pictures in message previews, or reply to messages.

      • Thanks. I might still wait for an Apple Watch deal.

    • +1

Had a read up this morning on just this question as I've been looking for a watch that'll allow me to play music without my phone present.

Seems to work fairly decently with an iPhone by most accounts, there are some limitations when synced with an iPhone though, really depends on personal use as to whether they would be deal breakers. Most of the comments I've read are around 2 years old so who knows if the same goes for today

      • Samsung Pay doesn't work
      • Limited Watch faces and Apps via the IOS app (no paid apps - I do wonder though if I sync to a family members Galaxy momentarily I could bypass that fact)
      • Doesn't Sync to Apple HealthKit but apparently can install Samsung Health
      • Can't reply to notifications

Few more bits and pieces here and there but I think for $149 none of them are really a dealbreaker.

      • +1

Thanks for detailed clarification. Can’t agree more considering Apple Watch 3 is still double the price.

      • Plus unable make calls & use google maps for navigation I believe.

        • Yeh I read the same, kinda confused why not able to use maps for navigation when you're away from the phone, but I committed to purchase it even though I have an iPhone anyway. Recording workouts + playing music away from the phone is my main use and this is still probably the cheapest I've been able to find lately that does both those things.

  • +2

    Use this daily,
If ya on a budget, this is pretty good.

Bit too slow for 2022 imo.

(Well I am pretty impatient as well 😁)

    • +3

how many days do you have between charges for regular/average daily usage?

      • +1

I'm receiving emails and texts all day and this watch lasts me 2 days between charges.

        • That makes it tempting. My current smart watch lasts 12 hours with heavy use, on a good day. I've gone back to an analog watch because I'm sick of always having the smart watch on charge.

          • @Dogstar: Do note that it also varies depending on the functions that you have turned on i.e. constant BP monitoring. I have it turned off to save battery and only check my BP when I feel like I need to. Living with anxiety, this helps me a lot to understand my feelings.

          • +1

@Dogstar: my watch has about 10 days between charges or 1-2 days of GPS tracking

personally, I would prefer more days of usage instead of more functions which I never use

        • hmmm…no too mutch

          • @rwt: Galaxy Watch 4 only lasts a day and a half.

    • Does all come with LTE

    • +1

It is actually fine, Tizen is quite light weight compared to WearOS. I've got a Ticwatch Pro with the new 4100soc. My old Galaxy Watch has better battery life and performance is pretty much identical.

  • +4

Tempting to buy, but do I need it?

    • +4

This…… it a waste on money tbh…. if you really needed it, you would have purchased it by now.

      • +3

I don't have a smart watch yet as i am not sure its worth it.

but for this low price, its a yes because I want to run with offline Spotify and not have to carry my phone.

Any other benefits will just be a bonus.

    • There's the OzBargain way and there's the highway…

      • +1

highway to hell. except that hell is filled with money you saved from not being on ozbargain

        • Yep "saving" money on things I don't need 🤣

    • +1

Your phrasing indicates you don't want to buy it.

'Need' is a strong word, you'd have trouble justifying that for most things.
