Buy Gaming PC Parts Now or Wait until End of Year?

I want to have a gaming PC around Nov/Dec just wondering whether I should be looking at picking up deals now or wait until then for new types of CPU/RAM/GPU etc. coming out?

I have no use for the PC now so I have no problem waiting. GPU will definitely be one of the new ones coming out, depending on how much they outperform current gen.

Can anyone shed some light on what will be coming out worth waiting for? I guess I can pick up a case now but then again something more appealing could come out later this year haha. I really like the look of the lian li dynamic evo atm but not knowing much about PC's I don't want to buy it then not have certain things fit in it.

Ideally I'd like to spend around $3k-$4k max and have it future proof for years of gaming, mainly future cod/warzone so high FPS is most important.

  • I'm even considering a gaming laptop to tide me over until part prices get sane again - it seems as gaming laptop pricing is getting competitive these days!

Just bought this 20% off for $2100

      • Nice choice

I was actually looking at the G15 5515 Ryzen 7 5800H + 3060 for ~$1500 over the 5520 because of the two internal drive bays but the crappy screen kept putting me off - then again I'd be using it with an external monitor so it may be OK… Intel looks like it would be preferable since I would have it plugged into power a lot of the time and Intel performs better than Ryzen when on power…

Otherwise one of those Kraken NUC things look tempting (or I drag my old Phenom II 1055T out because it's turning to winter and I need some heat :) )

If future proof is what you're after then buying current gen AM4 is probably not the right move (it's a dead end socket). We're moving to DDR5 and DDR4 is on the way out.

The ATX Power supply standard too, is evolving with introduction of ATX12VO. There will be a new 12VHPWR power connector that's designed to deliver up to 600 watts of power on the one cable. Current PSU's don't have this standard yet.

We're also moving to a new generation of PCIE express (gen 5).

So there's a lot of new standards just around the corner. The unfortunate news is that according to Intel's CEO the chip shortage continues so be prepared to pay a high price for all the cutting edge stuff. Maybe just buy the previous gen stuff to save some money instead.

  • Wait end of 2025

    • Personally I'd hold off for another 6 months, so mid 2026.

But then DDR6 and PCIe Gen 7 will be just a few months off so probably wait until early 2027

Edit: wow 3 to 4k lol your rich? plenty for a highend PC gaming machine including a nice big 4K screen too boot!

Ok firstly one has to consider what parts will hold stay around the same price till Christmas,.. so now till Christmas one can buy these parts on special deals

    Top of list,.

ATX cases for sure,.. but like you said do your homework what will fit in case, one example if your going watar cooling with radiator to front of case the hoses have a certain length, so if case is too long in depth were the hoses are not long enough too cpu could be a problem, though most modern branded water cooling setups do have longer hoses,.. but the right way to have radiator in front is hoses bottom of radiator (not that everyone follows this), which shortens the length of hoses to cpu, an easy fix is to setup push an pull on radiator with 4x fans, the extra 2x fans sandwiched between case and radiator will push radiator 25mm forward into case, yupz that 25 mm can make a big difference, Artic Liquid Freezer II 280mm aRGB is on special for $129 still can't go wrong at that price,…

Powersupplies usually hold prices so chase one of those on special, nice to say get a 650 watter or higher close too $100 mark if possible, I'd go more rating of powersupply then it say being fully modular, your not going too see anything anyway once in the case
One of the best reconized powersupllies,. Super Flower Leadex Platinum SE 1000W Power Supply $199 Delivered @ PC Case Gear on special

DDR 4 ram what 16gb 3200's is usual $100 a pair there abouts
On the extreme end though not bad price for 3600's aRGB 2x 16gb now $285 were on special for $253 at Amazon, so benchmark to beat finding again on special

M.2 SSD umm what 1TB about the $200 mark 2TB $400 mark always specials on those one can find cheaper for sure

AMD CPU's have seen for example the top tier AMD 5950x (16 core 32 threads) down as low as $720 I think, could go secondhand and find a 3950x cheaper has same Cores and threads but saying that especially since the new gen AMD cpus coming out there going to fall in price till Christmas so that you can wait till then

Motherboard prices are everywhere so that's something that will get cheaper in time also so that's another to wait for till Christmas

Anything else I've missed?,.. oh the biggy in the mix,.. GPU's,.. I ain't getting this one wrong, again lolz,.. yeah think there still heading south again, as NVidia's is releasing there new gen of GPU's this year so another one that's going too fall so yeah you'll easily fit the 3080 and maybe 3090 GPU in your 4k budget, that I'll hold onto buying also till Christmas

Ok that's enough to start you off I hope 👍😁

Edit: yupz AMD fan boy here, I have no idea what's out with Intel's CPU's and what they cost

3 to 4k… plenty for a highend PC gaming machine including a nice big 4K screen too boot!

If he goes for a 4k screen he'll blow the budget just on that.

There was a 4K 120Hz OLED monitor just over $1000 posted not long ago
        A non-gaming 4K screen can be under $400

    • Thanks some useful info here. Looks like waiting a bit longer is definitely the way to go, especially since I don’t need the PC until end of year. Ideally I’d like to buy new gen stuff, even though last gen would have dropped in price I want to be able to use this PC for at least a couple years before I have to upgrade anything.

I’d probably be gaming at 2k so I can get higher FPS

      • Also remember when new stuff come out, they are expensive, prob need wait a few months for the market to calm down.

  • What parts ?
    Car parts ?

    • Posted this in the computing section so I think it’s obvious lol

  • Keep waiting… and waiting. Newer stuff keeps getting released! 😀

    • yep and that next sale is only just few weeks after the last sale…. may as well wait for next years boxing day sale as there'll be some new awesome hardware over the horizon..

  • Why not buy an XSX now that they are back in stock?

  • If I can save you a lot of stress, buy the parts when you actually need them and build the PC to meet what you need it to do at that time, so don't worry about future proofing. Ignore any component deals after you already have your computer complete and don't sit on OzBargain waiting for someone to post a part you need.

    • Thanks, I plan on waiting until Dec/Jan and once I have it built I plan on ignoring all future deals until I need something haha
