Can somebody please enlighten me about apple air tags? Didn’t know it’s a thing. I have tiles I use for my keys and wallet if that’s something similar.
A lot of YouTube videos you can see what is it for. Basically it is similar to a tile but with much longer range. Good to put it on a bike or a car in case they get stolen.
They’re not especially good for stolen items because they alert whoever it is tracking of their presence. They’re intended for locating lost items. You can “mod” them to basically break the speaker however a thefts phone can still alert them of the presence.
Tile is potentially better for stolen items, however it has a smaller network of peers to locate things.
There is one video points out that where to place the airtag is harder for the thieves to remove it in time before the last know location is shown on the owner’s smartphone. Some thieves may just dump and run because of airtag. Not bulletproof but there are some comments in the video did say they recovered their bikes because of the airtag. I think it works well at least as a deterrent to tell the thieves to steal other bikes instead of mine.
@wtfnodeal: I guess, but worth being mindful Apple has continually tweaked the device to make it less viable for this such as reducing the times until they alert people as well as making the Android app available. Apple's trajectory is to make stalking less viable which in turn makes tracking lost items less viable also. If you're comfortable with that then sure, they're great trackers and the ability to locate a lost items second to none due to Australia having such a strong presence of Apple devices.
