Hi crew,
Just pulled out my good ole fat PS2 for my daughter to use Dance games and Guitar Hero. Hit 2 issues.
The laser has gone and DVD disks arent playing. HDD/ USB conversion might be the way to go.
The guitar hero dongles have also disappeared :(
Had a quick youtube browse and got some idea, but still confusing as i have no idea the difference between a ROM and a copy of the game itself.
So i have
- Ordered a new laser off eBay.
- Mate lent me a Mcboot memory card.
- Have a heap of spare 2.5 and 3.5" IDE HDDs.
- Found a few PS2 rom archives online.
Questions
A) Do emulation roms work on the Ps2 itself?
B) I could only find US ROM versions of the games we have. Will these work on a PAL PS2?
C) Any things to watch out for when buying a IDE HDD adapter? My 3.5" is 250gb and my 2.5s are 120gb. I also have a SSD, but seems a waste.
D) Any solutions to finding guitar hero dongles (cashies seems the way). I have a standard controller wireless receiver, but didnt work.
Thanks all.
In terms of the data, literally nothing (a ROM is literally the data that's on the disk). However the disks themselves often physically have extra stuff on them that distinguishes them from burnt CDs/DVDs, I think. Back in the day we used to have to 'chip' the PS2 to get it to play burnt ROMs (e.g. as described here).
Any reason it has to be the PS2 specifically? I'm not a gamer but I always thought Sony was pretty good with backwards compatibility for that sort of stuff.
