Buy them and claim them on your tax return if you're WFH ;)

I have these and I am a big fan. Improved in every way over the previous model.

  • Are these the ones that still have the bad mic quality? Great in every other aspect but the mic? I recall watching some reviews late last year and the mic was a huge let down IIRC.

    • Yes. Call quality on these is not great. I get complaints that there's heaps of background noise.

      • :-( Well that's a shame. Looks like I will be waiting until the next model gets released. Hopefully they'll have made some improvements by then.

Research Soundcore Liberty Pro 3 on YouTube, I own them and are awesome. Currently on sale for $195 on Amazon. Ensure you update the firmware via the mobile app for latest improvements.

I've done a ton of research on earphones that have a balance between high quality audio, noise canceling, ergonomics, and call quality.

Other good earphones for microphone call quality: Jabra Elite 7 Pro, Technics EAH-AZ60, and Bose Quiet Comfort.

Sony xm4 doesn't have multipoint (switching between two devices seemlessly) and also bad microphone as stated above.

@Ausdave: That's a great point! They don't allow you to connect to multiple devices at the same time.

Thanks for the recommendation. Will look into those later.

*edit - definitely a worthy contender!

          • @Ausdave: Jabra elite 7 pro is shocking. Just bought a pair on Saturday and audio quality is shocking. Had to turn to highest volume to have a good volume (old AirPods gen 2) plays same volume at 50% capacity. Call quality dodgy - tried on a friend with both AirPods and Jabra in Quiet room and he said can hardly hear with Jabra. Maybe a faulty pair but taking them back to the good guys tomorrow.

      • I can second this, I had to return mine previously because I kept getting negative feedback regarding the mic.

It was a shame cause the sound quality was great.

        • Did you return the Sony?

    • dont know but coming from those soundpeats this one is great and my partner has no issues with hearing me, then again I could be screaming at the top of my lungs.

      • If you work or make calls in a quiet environment, these work just fine. On a train or even walking down the busy cbd streets, I struggle.

        • hmm now that's weird cause the first call I did was down busy york street with buses and cars going by and my partner could still hear me fine, again I could be screaming.

  • price match at JB and pay with ZipPay

I have these headphones. I have also owned sennheiser momentum (the shitty first version with connectivity issues) and Bose qc buds.

I was a big advocate for Bose until somehow I lost the case and was told that the case pairs uniquely to the buds you have and therefore can’t be replaced, and was told by Bose they would give me new ones at the discounted price of $282 inc shipping (they priced at $400, everywhere else was ~$300, even with fewer middlemen involved with direct selling). Needless to say, I won’t be buying Bose again.

These headphones have much more detailed sound than the Bose - in fact the sound is impressively detailed. The bass is clearer but not as prominent as Bose. The sound is much more customisable.

Despite the case being half of the size, the battery lasts longer in the Sony. There are a ton of options for noise cancelling, reducing sound when you speak, and adapting anc/transparency depending on movement and location. Frankly the app is a bit fiddly and it took a while for me to get them set up as I wanted them.

In terms of noise cancelling, they are comparable to Bose but I don’t get quite as good a seal so more background noise bleed. Of course your mileage may vary.

Overall they are superior to the Bose but I can’t help but think that may be in a large part due to the xm4 being early lifecycle and the Bose being later.

    I definitely recommend these.

    • From what I have researched, these are top tier winners against Bose in all ways except the microphone.

I’d just give Bose the edge on ANC but that could be my fit

  • price is great, but I already have 3 pairs of earbuds…

  • They're too big for me. I prefer the H1s, T2s from soundpeats. H1s, for the money, are incredible sounding and the T2s ANC is solid while still having great sound.

I don't really care about apps… just sound quality, fitment in ear..battery life and cost.

  • Just got Sony to price match successfully. CR currently has 7% cash back for Sony store.

    • How do you go about getting this?
Via live chat or call them up? And then what is the next step? Do they send you a link?
      Thanks.

  • Not that overly impressed about these even though this headphones have amazing reviews.

  • I have the previous gen on these earbuds and there is an annoying trait where the active noise cancelling is turned on automatically every turn you put them on. It's super annoying to have to turn it off every time if it's not needed and drains the battery quicker.

Can anyone confirm if this is fixed in these or is noise cancelling automatically on again?

  • How's the bass on these compared to Jabra Elite Active 75T?
