Opinion on Replaced Solar Battery Warranty

Hi

I moved into a house in 2019 with 5kw Solar Battery installed in 2018.
Since I moved in it failed thrice (Total 13 months without battery as Installer could not rectify the problem and had to call the company every time.)
They Replaced it with a brand new Battery in November 2021.
Since December I had to call the technician 4 times as battery wound not discharge after full recharge.
I am worried as what happens after the warrant expires.

Original Warranty expires in January 2023 and company would not extent the period.
Is the company liable to pay any compensation for the lost period or should they extend the warranty period?

Starting to think the "Bargains" of Ozbargains means OzOneOffHelpLine.

what's wrong with that? some of the most entertaining threads are these 'new member with strange question' type threads.

Nothing will knock off the public BBQ thread in my eyes..

        • It's the official OzBargain way to boil water!

  • Whats the company name OP?

    • Sungrow.

      • Yikes, they are pretty bad. I would go straight to VCAT. Best case scenario they remove the entire infrastructure and compensate you.

        • OP is not the original purchaser, so I doubt they will do anything, but fix it under warranty.

        • Sungrow are the manufacturer - not the installer mate. Sungrow are also by far the best out of the cheaper solar components and same goes for their warranty service. You may be surprised with what I have to tell you about Fronius' warranty service and component reliability though but without boring you with the detail, Fronius inverter died three times in the warranty period (5 years), replaced (with a refurb) each time and it died again only a few months outside the 5 year period from when the initial inverter was installed. Fronius refused to help even with mentioning ACL and despite that the most recent refurb inverter was installed only 15 months prior.

As Drakesy posted below - legally they can consider warranty as starting from the initial install/purchase date and not restarting each time the component is replaced. ACL is a different thing though and they could be forced to play ball under ACL.

Unfortunately the warranty period is for the life of the original item, although you could argue that due to that lack of operation time that this should be extended.

More details would be helpful…. Like the brand/model of the battery, what it is doing or not doing etc.

  • The battery not discharging even at 100%. Once the battery is full it will export to the grid and when sun is down system will import energy from grid not from Battery.

    • Are you sure that's a battery issue?
It sounds more like the way it's set up, either hardware or software, or both.

      • Could be the inverter. Or whatever sits between the battery and the house.

ACCC and ask for refund no more replacements

    • ACCC can't/won't assist with trader disputes. You need to escalate it to the Small Claims Tribunal body in your state (eg in QLD = QCAT).

    • It's clear you have never made a ACL claim before.

ACCC does not deal with individual claims. In fact it is written in their Priority factors. "The ACCC is not a complaint handling body. We rarely become involved in individual consumer or small business disputes."

It's very simple. Go to Consumer Protection or Fair Trading in your state. If that fails take it to the relevant and appropriate court in your state.

With no real details of the equipment installed and the brand and model you are SOL. As you were not the original purchaser they will not refund you. Call the department of fair trading in your state and ask them what to do.

Despite being a newbie, he knows and uses complex words. I approve.
