    • Haven't bought PC games from Amazon before, is this come as a physical disc version or digital download?

      • +6

For this one they ship you an empty case with a printed code inside which you redeem in Origin for PC, similar for other platforms.

Others might say "digital download" and send you a link in your email which also gives you a key.

      • +1

I almost bought it this morning @ $9, but with long game backlog, I am waiting for the PC version to be included in the EA Pass, which is included in the xbox game pass ultimate.

  • Thanks OP

  • +5

I did not play this one, got a bit disillusioned with BF1… how have people found this? going on the price I take it has not gone all that well?

    • +7

      https://www.kotaku.com.au/2022/04/battlefield-2042-going-che…

Battlefield 2042 suffered launch woes from the jump, with players complaining about everything from bugs to weapon balancing. Though developer DICE has released multiple patches addressing a load of issues, the damage has certainly been done. The player base continues to fracture and revolt across Reddit and social media, unhappy with being sold a full-priced game in what, to them, feels like an incomplete state.

If you’re someone who is happy enough to play the waiting game when it comes to patches or just grin and bear it your way through things, you might be glad you grabbed Battlefield 2042 for cheap.

      • +11

If you’re someone who is happy enough to play the waiting game when it comes to patches or just grin and bear it your way through things, you might be glad you grabbed Battlefield 2042 for cheap.

Yeah! Look at No Man Sky, they only had to wait 5 years for a decent working version! So what, you've only 4.5 years left? And you've also just gotten a scoreboard? Things are certainly looking up!

        /s

        • +11

Haha definately no point picking this one up, EA will probably have released 2 more Battlefield games by the time 4.5 years has passed.

        • +8

Maybe in 5yrs time they will have developed the technology to display a list of servers instead of having me click play, wait 4 minutes then putting me into an empty server.

        • +3

That implies EA would support a game for more than a year at most after release.

        • +1

          It's a Battlefield 2042… looks like it's another 20 years to go…..

    • +9

yeah it's bad, no real enjoyment playing against half a lobby filled with ai when I'm meant to be playing online multiplayer

    • +4

Its just not a fun game, if you were disillusioned with BF1 you will hate this. Its the furthest from feeling like a battlefield game of all the mainline games.

I own it so it costs me nothing if I wanted to go play it again but I dont because it's just bad, I will be shocked if EA dont announce that they are completely abandoning it as soon as they have delivered the season 1 content they sold to people as part of the ultimate edition.

Even if it went free to play I would say it isnt worth the bandwidth.

    • +3

Battlefield 1 was a masterpiece compared to this POS. It seriously feels like a mobile port.

      • +4

I highly rate BF1, it was well put together on every aspect and ffs I have even sourced the sound track and have bf background music in my office it's that friking good.

Bf5 turned good when it was free and the community did grow exponentially. It's a quick fun game that I'm not getting serious in but bf 2042 just had to much going for it and you can tell they spread themselves to thin to be productive and make something work.

    • +3

      BF1> BF5>>>BF2042

      • I'll pay that. —> + for you sir/mam

    • +1

BF1 was the last good BF. Everything since has been a major disappointment.

    • +8

It's utterly awful. Stay away, don't waste your money like I did. Even though it's $9.

For $9, buy a box of nails (https://www.mitre10.com.au/otter-nail-wallboard-zinc-plated-…) and a cheap hammer (https://www.mitre10.com.au/buy-rightr-8oz-claw-hammer) from Miter10.

Hammer the nails into your left eye. It'll be more fun.

      And you'll get $0.85 change.

      • +1

Thanks for saving me money and suffering. I am off to Mitre 10 now.

      • where were you when i decided to become a gamer at x years old.. could have saved me a life time of pain and suffering not to mention money sink

you know how many african kids i could have fed with that

  • +29

lol 90% off. I don't think I've ever seen an AAA title discounted so heavily after 7 months of releasing.

    • +6

Fallout 76 fell hard. Can’t remember exact prices and times but I think it was worse than this

      • +2

I remember that being $5 at some point, not sure about now

        • Got it from bigw for $5 a week ago

    • +7

      Anthem was pretty bad

    • +33

I saw Anthem for $1 in EB games.

And I WHOLEHEARTDELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT regret not buying it now… as I now need a spare Xbox game case.

      • +14

Cracked me up, maybe nearly as much as the case you need to replace.

      • +3

I bought up most of the Anthem stock predicting the great Xbox game case shortage. Things have not gone well.

    • Agents of Mayhem deals are now so low we have to post in Zimbabwean dollars.

    • +1

I’m so glad I refunded my premium copy. Paid like $150, such a moron. Never again.

  • +10

I would probably wait until this becomes free from twitch or something. The player base is not that great for this game

    • +2

Some may want it on PS5 not PC.

      • +1

        Game is crossplay

        • Some may have a system other than PC that they wish to play on.

    • Unless it gets Oz bargained….

    • Can’t be that bad when you include all platforms? It’s definitely going to spike up now.

  • +4

    BFV ftw

    • I honestly wish BFV would be the new standard and they just built more content around it.. it is such a great game i just wish we had more tanks weapons gadgets etc to play with otherwise it shoots and feels nice.. it will never happen not for at least a long time but one can dream

  • +3

HLL felt so slow when I played it, I had to walk for 5 minutes to see any action.

I'm not gonna lie, $9 is tempting.

    Is there a Campaign?

I'm trying to be picky with games, no HDD space for PS5.;external dad's still cost 75% of what I paid for my PS5.

    • +19

      No campaign unfortunately

      • Thank you

    • +1

There's no campaign AFAIK, but you can still play the maps against bots with all the vehicles and weapons (?) - am thinking that might be worth $9?

      https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/11/11/does-battlefield-2042-…

      • +1

Playing against bots is a good way to level up your gear for unlocks.

    • +7

Hell Let Loose has a large emphasis on establishing spawn points for the team (and covertly taking out the enemy's).

I promise that as a newcomer, there's so many experienced and friendly players at the moment that the 'endlessly running' critique doesn't really exist any more.

      • +1

        I'm use to COD, Warzone.

I like playing super fast and aggressive.

When I started, I'd hang out on the edge of the map as a sniper. I was scared 🤣🤣🤣

Now I'll run shotgun, and an SMG and just be super aggressive as I find it more fun.

I buy so many games, and all I play is Warzone. So, maybe I should stop buying and just stick to the single game 🤣

        • +2

Haha, fair enough! Siege has been my go-to since it launched, I enjoy the slightly slower paced FPS titles where you need to make a considered choice before engaging (even if it does all fall to s*** lol). Shotguns are always my weapon of choice though, like getting up close and personal where positioning plays a bigger role than pure accuracy.

          • @OfTheOverflow: I've never heard of Siege, I'll look into it.

        • Fkn can't even gety a load out these days - too many sweaty kents on

    • +2

There's no campaign, and no offline or singleplayer mode either, everything is online-only, even playing alone against AI bots.

So unless they enable offline mode in some future update, this game is not worth getting even for free.

  • +3

    Agree RE Hell Let Loose

    • +5

Ngl this post was just a stealthy way for me to promote HLL. I'm a day-1 Siege player but haven't booted it in weeks since getting addicted to HLL.

      • +1

You son of a bitch I'm in.

      • +1

I picked up HLL in a recent Steam sale and am really enjoying it. Reminds me of Red Orchestra back in the day.

Also enjoying Holdfast atm which has a different time period and is an alot more memey kind of military sim.

      • HLL is seriously my favourite shooter of all time now. Nothing else even compares in complexity and realism. Definitely takes some getting used to and learning curve is very steep but worth it if people stick it out.

  • +7

Damn if only it had a single player campaign

  • +1

I've bought worse games for more out of sheer curiosity… for $9 I'm keen to experience the shit show for myself and play the long game on them making it playable… mind you this is coming from somebody that bought Anthem for $5 after they announced they were doing a major update that never happened.

    • +3

play the long game on them making it playable

I think you’ll be waiting forever. With a declining player base and a terrible reputation, this game will likely have minimal effort put into fixing it
They’ll be putting all their efforts into a new game with a cool and fun trailer but broken at launch. I wonder will gamers will ever learn

      • You're probably right but for $9 I'm not really to worried… BFV was a fun couple of months when it was free on PS+ two years after release and they ended up doing a pretty decent job with Battlefront 2.

        • I will be shocked if they put as much effort in to turning this game around as they did for BFV and Battlefront 2. I am positive this game is going to be cut loose the second they complete the bare minimum that was promised to people that bought ultimate edition.

          • @PiratePete1911: 100% you're probably right… I guess as someone that's played every Battlefield going back to 1942, I just curious enough to see how they've managed to turn it into such a dumpster fire that I'm prepared to pay $9 for the price of admission… honestly I think the series went bad when they stopped spawning vehicles on the map and it's been a pretty tired formula for a while.

  • So no point getting this if you can't connect to ps store or go online on a ps5?

    • +5

i'd almost say there is no point owning a PS5 if you can't do those things… but definitely not… this is an online game first and foremost… when it works, lol

      • I play single player games exclusively on my PS4. You could easily do the same with PS5. But definitely avoid these online multiplayer games if you can’t play online.

        • +1

while i see your point of view, the fact is these modern consoles are designed to be online and games (even single player ones) often ship in a state requiring patches (not to mention console firmware and even controller firmware updates)… I honestly can't imagine using any modern console offline and trusting games I buy will work perfectly in this day and age, those days are long gone sadly

          • +2

@KRiSX: I think he/she means online as in you need a PS Plus subscription to play, even just playing alone vs AI bots, because it's always-online.
            https://www.dexerto.com/battalion-1944/playstation-plus-xbox…

I (and many others) don't have PS Plus, so games like this are out of the question for me.

          • @KRiSX: I did actually have the PS4 disconnected from the internet for a while (it had issues with my router). Did come across some pretty interesting bugs in games like Spider-Man but overall it was useable. Games appear to become more and more reliant on “day one patches” so might be worse with PS5.

      • -2

Then you have no idea how many others are out there with their ps5 in the closest, waiting for the jailbreak..lol

  • +7

    Can't believe I thought $62 pre-order was a good deal last year

    • +10

I really hope gamers will realise how stupid it is to pre-order games. Especially from EA who is known to have disastrous launches

      • Yep. Unless they give pre-order exclusives, there's no incentive to pre-order a digital game because supply will never run out.

    • +2

I bought that price error 60 dollars for the ultimate edition, at the time I was happy they honoured it but once the game launched I wished they had refunded me :(

  • +17

    No campaign. No DICE

    • +2

I see what you did there

  • Is the game cross play?

    • +1

Yes, PC and Xbox. Not sure about PS5.

      • +4

It's cross play on same gen devices
        PS4+XB1
        PS5+XBX+PC

    • +4

You'll be very cross after you've tried to play it.

  • I just bought this last week 2nd hand for $15 and I thought I got a bargain! lol…

  • +6

It sounds like its maybe not even worth it at this price

    • +2

      Yeah, I'm not really tempted.

      • +1

It is baaad. One of the buggiest experiences I have played at launch.
Ever since BF3 and BF4 I think it has been in decline.
I played BF1 and BFV and they were okay but not as fun as the two previous modern day setting games.
2042 has been the nail in it for me. I went back to COD……

        • +1

          The beta wasnt that bad.

I kinda wanna get it for the stress test lol

          • +1

@kehuehue: The beta was better than the game launch in my opinion. They polished that one map and with the weather sequence as well made it seem interesting.
Ha, I was about to buy a graphics card upgrade to play the game at the peak of prices but after seeing how poor the gameplay experience was, held off. Still holding out until now.
In some ways I should thank EA for preventing me from buying a graphics card.

  • +1

Tbh $9 is not bad for Portal + I hear the main game has improved though I haven't touched it for ages. Back to BF4 here. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

  • +2

what's the point if it doesnt even have a campaign??

    • +7

People don't buy Battlefield games to play the campaign lmao

      • +8

        I do!

I am an old-school gamer so I've been playing well-before online games. (I'm also sad the way online gamers treat each other, but that's another story)

I love single-player games, they are what makes gaming "gaming" to me. I have loved all the campaign games of BF. Unfortunately, I never finished BF4 as the multiplayer aspect of it kept resetting my campaign game to the beginning.

        • +1

Must admit I enjoyed the campaign's also.

    • I don't recall the first few having a campaign. BF2 definitely didn't and it's widely held as one of the best of the lot.

  • +5

Wow thats embarrasing. Paid $150 for this in hopes it would be my main played game on my new PS5.

    • I am in the same boat but on XBOX Series X

      • +2

You’re on an Xbox, in a boat?

    • +1

I feel your pain man, I really do.

I would feel livid, annoyed, and sad. I really looked forward to this and was hyped as anything, until I saw reactions to the Beta. First BF game I haven't played at launch, and it just saddens me at where this franchise is now. Just look at Angry Joe's reaction to it on YT, funniest review I've ever watched.

  • +3

I can see this being a Game Pass/PS+ game in the near future.
