Dune 4WD 2x2m Caravan Car Awning $49 w/Code @ Anaconda (Club Membership Required)

630
WELCOME10

Original Coupon Deal

As per the deal. I have one of these fitted to my Subaru Tribeca and it's a great addition for more shelter when out camping. It is big enough to provide cover over a swag tent. I bought another earlier and can confirm the code works with this.

Put one of these up the other day, went away for a few hours and when I got back it was full of Fremen, then my DeLorean got swallowed by a worm!

      I like these references!

      • +1

Unfortunately there are many that don't (have a sense of humour.)

        • +2

Perhaps they just don't understand them?

          • -8

@magic8ballgag: Perhaps making "references" is just lame?

            • +6

@9839002: But is it really worth the downvotes ? That seems to be even lamer.

@Magpye: I guess some people have way too much time on their hands.

    Cheers bruh snagged one

  • Is this too small for 2 ppl for shelter when it’s raining? I’m looking to mount this on my Subaru Outback. I think I need Yakima EasyOff bracket.

    • It'd be marginal.

    • It'll be fine for sun shade, but too small for rain protection by itself. You will need to buy the 2.5m version to attach Dune's awning walls

      • The overhang from 2.5x2 might be a problem though on the outback :/

EDIT: I think you can get Kings or any other brand 2x2.5m side wall.

    • Yep you need the yakima easyoffs. They're superb.

re the rain, 2x2m is pretty small. you'd be huddled right up against the car hoping there was no crosswind. map out 2x2 on your floor and imagine a roof over that at car height (seems to be about 1.7 or so to me re my outback and awning, so too short for me to stand under). i think a bit bigger than that would be better in the rain.

      • +1

I had a chat with Yakima and apparently they don’t recommend installing 2.5m using EasyOff on outback. This is due to too much overhang. Here is a photo what it looks like on an outback:
        https://ibb.co/5j28Vx1

According to the photo, the front overhang is almost 1m which might be risky on highways.

        • i totally agree it would be unsafe - i wasn't suggesting you get a larger one. just taht 2x2 is quite small if you wanna stay dry.

        • The issue I see is it doesnt need to be longer - (front to back of car length), they need to come out lots more from the side of the car to be of any use.

      • Apart from the ease of taking the awning on and off, is there any other advantage to using the Yakima Easyoffs on an Outback or similar sized car?

I mean, you can mount the awning to the included roof rails without buying the extra bits, I presume?

Or is part of the benefit also about elevating the awning another 10cm, or something else I'm missing?

        • See my comment below.

        • +1

the outback's roof rails are funky (see here) and have built-in crossbars. they're great in many ways, but you need to do surgery to access something you could do a more typical awning mount on.

    • +1

Don't worry, if this is your plan for shelter from the rain it will be one person again pretty quickly.

  • Some reason it doesn't goes pass the cart for me, payment screen keeps showing failed to verify 3D etc etc even when trying different payment method. Tried it without the code but the same thing happened. Doesn't let me pay with PayPal, zip pay or afterpay either when everything failed.

I just bought one along with Yakima EasyOff to mount it on my outback. Total: $118. I was planning to get the Yakima Slimshady but it’s almost triple the price. I wonder how good or bad is this one on a windy day.

  • There was a budget Aldi one of these fitted to my car when I bought it. Probably cost a similar price new, but cost a lot more in fuel usage so I took it off. Just something to be aware of before buying it it’s not something you’ll use often

    • i didn't notice any change in fuel economy with the awning on our car (subaru outback). but you should definitely be removing any bulky accessories (roof baskets, racks, awnings, tracks) etc whilst not in use for fuel economy and longevity of the accessory.

  • Anyone know if they can be attached to low profile roof rails on an suv¿

    • +1

Most likely, but the main thing to consider is your roof high enough so you can walk under the awning.

  • Any cheap 270° freestanding awnings?

    • -7

Why don't you do some research and post here if you find any?

    • +1

They are coming up for good prices on Gumtree used…
Neighbour scored a genuine Foxwing for $400

      • …marketplace too. I missed a darche for $800 and have a 30 second 6 hrs away but they want $1k hard lol.

  • Is the installation possible just by buying this alone?

    • +1

What roof rack do you have? It comes with T bolt and L brackets.

      • Nothing. Just the stock roof side rails (bare roof). Is it sufficient? Thank you.

      • is it meant to come with tBolts? mine didn't just bolts and the L bracket

crap, i bought last time for $59, i feel ripped off now :(

    • It's the same deal (comes around every few months) - the extra $10 off is the long running welcome bonus credit code

  • I have one of these fitted to my Subaru Tribeca

I hope it's not the earlier model that's as ugly as a hat full of bastards?

    • 2008 model. I believe it's nickname is the "Koala Nose". I like it. Handles like a dream.

  • Would this be okay on an xtrail?

    • +1

It'll be okay on just about anything, but you need to have roof racks fitted for it to attach to.

      • +1

        Thank you

  • Do these come with any fittings for roof racks? Brackets?

  • Anyone know if this comes with a bracket to fit to the roof racks?
Or do I need to buy a fitting kit as well?

Ah - disregard - just read: "Fitting Kit Included. However, additional fittings may be required, to fit awning to your roof rack (not included)."

    • Any idea what that means? Fitting kit included but won't attach to a roof rack??

      • +1

Me think it means that roof racks are not included

      • +1

It means it comes with a universal bracket, but it may not suit all roof racks.

        • So why are so many people also ordering Yakima Easyoffs?

          • +2

@UncleRico: Certain roofracks don’t have C-channel/gutter, so you would need to either drill holes or buy Yakima EasyOff which is a much neater solution.

This awning comes with L bracket and T bolts, so it will fit most racks with C channel.

  • $18.99 makes my ozbargain-blood boiling to the max… i couldnt make it c&c also. Deal breaker.

    • Also when you add items, the delivery also multiply hahaha sure they need more boxes for those.

  • Thanks

  • Can one person set this up with ease? I’m tall with long arms, but I see two people doing it in the anaconda YouTube video https://youtu.be/jEu4sjsWKNE

    • Yes. After you retract the awning, let it rest on you or hold it up with one arm and the other pulls out the legs. Once stabilised, pull out the other leg, then go back to the bag and connect the side poles.

Got one, now I need to buy a car.

EDIT: OMG!! what happened to car prices??

EDIT 2: I need to refund this and buy a (very) small car.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one.

  • Thanks, got one C&C - will grab on the weekend!
Been looking at one of these for a project for a while now, great price thanks!

  • Thanks OP, got one for my 2022 Palisade. Let's see how it goes.

If anyone wants a side wall to go with the dune 2x2m, then this might fit:
    https://www.oztrail.com.au/products/rv-shade-awning-side-wal…

    • +1

      $59 Delivered from snowys:
      https://www.snowys.com.au//rv-shade-awning-side-wall-2

      Dimension: 210x185cm.

      Just bought one.

      • Thanks for the heads up on this. I managed to order 2 via oztrail site directly on clearance $52.50 each shipped.

        • How did you get this price? Mine comes up as $15 for shipping when tried to buy off oztrail.

          • @mirovich: Add to cart. Register. Don’t buy and wait overnight. They then send you a reminder email for items in your cart with a 10% off coupon.

            • @Christoshizz: Account welcome email includes 10% discount off first purchasing using code, "WELCOME10".

Unfortunately, they're now showing up as out of stock at OzTrail…

              • @UncleRico: It would be almost the same price from snowys if you only buying one.

                • @mirovich: Either way they are cheap. Hopefully can be retrofitted to fit this awning!

    • consider these for shade and wind mostly, i have similar on my caravan and a fair bit of water gets in (not surprising) given the large gap. I believe they make tent rooms for these, not sure if 2 x 2 is available but if you are worried about rain i doubt its significantly more time consuming to setup than 1 or 2 walls but will take more room in your car.
