iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14

I was considering to buy an iPhone 13 max pro but I don't know if I should wait for the new iPhone 14 to come out. Are there any major specs upgrade between 13 and 14 and does it make any differences?

I’m in the same boat as you. I was really hoping 14 Pro Max will bring in USB-C charging and fingerprint scanner. From the articles, don’t think either will happen which is disappointing. I’m going to wait and once 14 is released, if there’s nothing more than better camera and faster processor, 13 will be cheaper so I’ll get that.

    • So there is no fingerprint scanner and you cannot charge with USB-C? I think you can charge your phone by lightning to USB C, I don't know if that makes a difference in terms of charging speeds.
I wonder if the camera will change significantly though.

      • Agree you can get the adapter, just easier when it’s the port to save carrying around adapters. Just frustrating that iPad Pro is usb-c and iPhones are not because of the money they make on lightning cables.

        • iPhones are not because of the money they make on lightning cables.

It's not, though. Apple's vision is to go to completely wireless - so we'll likely see wireless by iPhone 15. So, really, there's no point going through the absolute pain of moving to USB-C

    • I'd also be keen on USB-C and a fingerprint scanner. That would save me carrying a phone charge cable, and make it easier to unlock my phone when I'm wearing a mask. But it doesn't look like either will happen.

The latest update has the option to Face ID with mask. Works, haven’t had a problem with it so far.

Trust me, wait for 15. Better

    Better yet wait for 16.

Wait till 16 comes out and get 14 is the way.

Look, I really shouldn’t be telling you this but I know Ozbargain is a safe place…. the new iPhone 27 is going to be great. It might be a few years wait but well worth it I promise you!

Get neither. iPhone 8-11 can be had for less than $200-$500 2nd hand. They still work fine. iPhone 11 will be supported for years.

If anything we have learned from the last 12 iPhone launches, the new iPhone 14 will “change everything again” but will only actually be a slight bump in processing power, maybe slightly better cameras and probably more of them, all wrapped up in something that looks identical to the last 4 or so iterations of their flagship model.

  • The 13 is available today, the 14 is not.
wait for the 14, should you then wait for the 15?

  • Iphone 14 might have the newer x65 modem for faster 5g speeds, wifi6e and posibly satellite connectivity.

    • Some cheap Chinese phones already fly way past old Yank models. Beware: not every country gets the latest tech!

I'd suggest satellite connection is absolutely a fantasy.

      • Sounds like a logical step to me?

I mean not the 14 but in the near future.

The antenna size and power requirements are much more than for cell service.
The market for chunkier phones for the once a year you are out of cell coverage is tiny.

  • Biggest difference would be.

    iPhone vs no phone.

  • If you need a phone today, then the answer is clear.

If you can afford to wait 6 months; then wait. No one knows definitively what the new model will be like but it's unlikely to be revolutionary.
Updates have been incremental for some time now.
