    • How do Bunnings go at price matching their other stores? Our old heater’s sparker shit the bed and this would do the job til we get it sorted, local had them in stock supposedly.

        tried today but no go

        • Cheers daemon!

Ended up getting a similar thing from Kmart for 29 normal price yesterday anyway, just needed a quickie to tide us over.

    • This is an awesome bargain on paper but as mentioned in the product review website they only offer a 12 month warranty and have had a few defective units

I am a bit tired of throwing away things I cannot repair. The heaters should last as long as a hot water heater, kettle etc

Thanks for posting. Better spend the money on this than a bottle of whisky to feel warm

      Brand name should read Arlec

    • Cheap to buy, expensive to run.

Better in the long term if possible to run a split system.

      • +1

It would be much cheaper to run but I don't own the property in which I live so it's portable heaters for me any many others who also rent. I'm not sure if my landlord would be up for installing a split system in every room of the house.

      • Anyone got any ideas how much it would cost to switch over from a gas ducted system to central split system unit?

We have gas ducted heating upstairs which has 6 outlets and evap cooling which has a similar number of outlets.

Would be ideal to have one more efficient system for heating and cooling and we are likely to be in the same house for around 10 years I expect.

Located in Metro Melbourne if that makes a difference.

  • they used to have 2 sizes, is this the larger one ?

might be because bunnings now also list kamado joe which is a more expensive version of the pit boss or char griller …. so yeah might be clearing them out.

i’d love one of these but the small ones are less diameter than my weber kettle.

    • Its the smaller one

It was a standard product line and this is the original price

Better to buy the kj when bbq galore goes on sale as its a better finished product with a lifetime ceramic warranty

By bbqg goes on sale bunnings will have it cheaper as well

These are pretty expensive for a cheap product

      • Worth it for $450 though?

        • 450?

          • @poxy001: Been keeping a eye out for this one at the local Bunnings for months, got it today for 450, floor model, missing pizza stone and cover but can get those later.

            • +1

@kiwizz: If it’s missing the diffuser then you’ll wanna get one of those ASAP. They’re really useful. If it’s just a pizza stone (mine didn’t come with one…) then yeah who cares.

              • @deapeasea: Oh, maybe its the diffuser - not sure what that looks like though. Will do some googling.

                • +1

@kiwizz: yeh definately dont wanna use a kamado without the diffuser. u can buy them seperate (special order through bunnings), but theyre not cheap

I have the Char Griller Akorn. That was $500, and I totally swear by it. Its double wall steel instead of ceramic, but for the price it is unbeatable. Done plenty of over night cooks in it, and it holds temp beautifully and seems pretty efficient on charcoal. I have no idea how much better this one is over the akorn, but if its a decent upgrade, then surely this is a pretty decent price too?

Im not saying a KJ on sale wouldnt be better (especially build quality), but you would be buying the bottom of the range KJ which is missing a lot of the feature / accessories that you get with the higher end models, and it will still be more expensive than this.
