Pet Medication for Ear Infections - Online Purchase

Hi all,
our dog regularly gets yeast infections of the ear and so a trip to the vet for antibitoics is effective but becoming expensive. So now we know what works, where can I purchase animal antibiotics online and have a supply on hand at home ? Thanks in advance.
PS our Woolies insurance doesn't cover him as it's considered a pre-existing condition - go figure.

You may find the most effective treatment is by Vet prescription only. Online is the way to go as we find prices are about a quarter of what Vet charges from the same product.
But to buy online you will likely need a script from your Vet.
Visit the Vet for a final time and ask them for a couple of scripts that you can get filled elsewhere

    • Thanks for the advice, probably a bit reluctant to take this approach - half the vet fee is the meds !!

      • What medication is it? When I had a dog I used to buy some of his medication from the pharmacist because the human version was cheaper.

Also, have you tried a raw or whole food diet for the dog? My parents dog used to get ear infections and foot infections until they changed his diet and he improved a lot and rarely needs medication now.

My dog gets ear infections regularly, and my vet recommended Dermcare Otoflush (can buy it from many pet shops and online stores like Pet Circle, etc). It's a cleanser and helps with bacterial ear infections I think, so may not work as well if your dog only has yeast infections. Ask your vet if this is a good option.
It has been fantastic for my dog, clears up the signs of ear infections within a few days and he hasn't had to have antibiotics for over a year now.

    • Yes, we do the ear flush, again bought it from the vet $$$ with the meds $$$. I think we got lazy and hence the 2nd infection. Fed mostly cooked meat and veg.

Try Ilium Ear Drops, I use them for my dog as a preventative measure as he always use to get yeast infections in his ears.

Since using these once a week or so he hasn’t had any issues in a few years and his ears are much cleaner.

    • Thanks for this advice.

  • This medication is also very effective for "hotspots". My bullmastiff had them regularly and this worked well.

    • LLium ?

      • Ear medication. I'd have to check the pack to see exactly what it was, but wasn't drops (I didn't reply to the Llium comment btw). Our vet put us onto it as I think he took pity on our continual trips as our BM was subject to a lot of hotspots.

        • Thanks for clarifying TD.
Reading up, seems Llium is a garlic extract. Might give this a go.
We found hotspots in our previous dog was food related. We went grain-free and still do.

  • Hey MITM, I know this is an old thread but wanted to tell you what worked for us in case your pooch is still suffering.

She had multiple infections so we were doing the flushing weekly too - she hated it… we hated it too. But we stopped after we realised the infections were because she was getting no air in her ear. Each time she is asleep I open up her ear by flipping it over. It’s so simple I’m feeling dumb for not realising. No yeast infections since - and no more ear washing.
