Techfast PC Hasn't Turned on in Months (No Signal)

It's no longer under warranty so I can send it back. All the fans turn on and it looks like all my usb ports are working. However when I turn it on I get no signal on my monitor. I thought perhaps it was the power supply so I bought a new one and I'm fairly sure its installed properly. But still that didn't work. I'm no good at troubleshooting or computers in general. Does anyone have advice on how to figure out the problem?

Thanks

Plug your monitor into the MB not the graphics card. You GPU may be loose/dead/have an issue.

If you aren't very good at troubleshooting, only advice I have is to take it in to a shop to have it looked at.

If we knew your area someone might be able to recommend somewhere, but short of that, there are many things it could be.

I'd still encourage you to reach out to Techfast.

  • The lack of a display output might mean several things

    • The GPU isn't seated properly or it's not getting power. If you already replaced the power supply unit, double check that the power cables (labelled PCIE) is inserted all the way in and that your PSU's power connector (if a modular type) is plugged in too.

    • The GPU itself has a bad display output port. Try a different HDMI cable / Try a different type of port (e.g DisplayPort)

    • GPU might be dead. You can try removing the GPU and inserting it into a different system to test. If you have a spare GPU from a different system try swapping it in. If this step works, the GPU will need to be RMA'd.

    • If this is an Intel build with Intel UHD graphics, remove the discrete GPU entirely from the system and try to boot your computer with your LCD monitor attached to the motherboard's video output. If this step works, the GPU will need to be RMA'd.

If you're still not getting a signal out, short CMOS jumper pins labelled CMOS Reset (or remove the coin cell battery from the motherboard for 30 seconds) to clear settings and try again.

    • The CMOS reset did something. The mobo lights were off before now they're on. Still no signal. Maybe the powersupply isn't installed correctly. Bit confused with the SATA cable

      • SATA data cable or power cable? you shouldn't need to unplug any SATA data cables. They can be left as-is. The SATA data cable is plugged in, but the power cable is not according to your photo. Power cable is keyed (looks like an ┌╼ shape) and will only go in one way. Make sure it's oriented correctly.

The following power cables need to plugged in:

        1. ATX 24 pin power connector. This goes in the motherboard
        2. EPS 12 volt connector. This goes in the motherboard
        3. PCIe Power connector. This goes in the GPU.
        4. Molex and SATA power. This goes into your SATA HDD or SSD and possibly a fan controller, if your case has one. You won't need the molex connector.

It will make it a lot easier to troubleshoot your system if you also take a photo of your motherboard. Some boards have diagnostic lights that tell you what part of the boot process it is stuck on.

You may need to download the manual for the motherboard to understand what the lights or LED readouts mean.

  • How long out of warranty?

Does the monitor lights come on at all?
Changed a setting from AUTO select to VGA or HDMI by accident?

Remove all cables and reseat them
    Remove GPU and reseat it.

  • Try the GPU suggestions above first. It's a common problem with an easy fix.

Failing that and assuming you're not getting the POST beep:

Pretty certain you would have already tried this, but switch off the power at the wall, wait 10 secs and switch it back on, then retry.
If that doesn't work, unplug ALL usb peripherals from the PC and check if a signal goes to your monitor.
If there's no signal, take out all of the RAM sticks and see if the POST screen appears. If it does, insert one stick back in and factory reset the BIOS settings. If it doesn't, unplug all storage devices like SSD's, HDD and retry.

Unless there was a recent power surge, it's not likely that any of the hardware has died. The fun part is working out which bit is being cranky.

  • I would suggest youtube for dummies.

  • The first thing the OP should do to get any help figuring out the problem is tell us a bit about the computer. In this case because the problem is with it not displaying anything on the monitor it would help if we knew a bit about that aspect of the machine. Like, does the video cable plug into a GPU card, or the motherboard. Has the cable been checked as connected as both ends. Does the monitor appear to be working, and is there any other computer it and its cable can be plugged into to verify that. And the very first check would be if the keyboard lights or anything else indicated the computer was booting up.

  • Working! First time in months. cmos must've fixed it. Dunno if its also my new power supply. Thanks for the help guys

    • Nice. Don't forget to set your XMP profiles so your memory is running at it's full speed.

  • Ffs doing it again…lights no longer on mobo

I got to windows screen evrytbing was good. But I turned it off at the wall cos I needed to add a stick of ram back in. Put covers back on, tried to turn it on same issue. No blue lights on mobo. I tried the CMOS again didn't work. Maybe my mobo is shot?

How many RAM slots does your motherboard have? Have you tried putting the ram in a different slot?

Have you swapped the Ram sticks around and checked to see if either allows you to boot?
