So ebay prints you a free return label and deducts the postage fees from the refund amount for any returns. If the amount is deducted from your refund amount can you still submit a refund request for the postage fees on paypal using this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674890 ? What's the best way to go about this? Thanks.

Did ebay give you that option when you clicked return? Because I don't remember seeing it. I might have to cancel my return and try again and if that fails I suppose I just got to contact the seller (Computer Alliance) although since i'm not doing it through the official ebay process that seems risky.
I don't remember it as I don't return often. But I suggest to just go with the return as you have opened it. If you close it, there is change you cannot open again.
Yea I think I will thanks. Also I just tested it with another product and eBay gave me no option to return using my own postage so I don't know how the PayPal deal is supposed to work without a receipt.
@baskinghobo: I tested recent order this way - Open return, Why return - I choose ordered by mistake, then next, then give more info and photos, then confirm - same step?
@foxmulder: Yea now that I think about it that is probably where I was supposed to put my postage info lol. I thought it was more for providing proof if you chose something else like "faulty product". Also I think ebay said the postage amount will be deducted after pressing confirm making it sound like it will get deducted whether or not I use my own label. They don't let you add more info after pressing confirm either which is stupid so I'm probably down $20 but I'm going to try claim a refund anyway.
@foxmulder: On second thought I am not sure if that is where the postage info is supposed to go. Because as soon as I sent the package using eBay's return label it progressed to the next page. How is it supposed to do that if you use your own label since there is no input box specifically to enter your tracking number? Going outside eBay's automated process seems risky to me. Maybe they have changed the returns process or maybe I'm just overthinking it.
@baskinghobo: That steps I mentioned to you may have been the first part of the return - on the committed return - there may be option for you to choose your own postage. If there isn't and it's expensive, you may have then use your own and get paypal to pay you back then you can tell eBay to refund you back the postage if any.
Just wanted to check how this worked out for you? Ive run into the same snag, with only ebays return option with deduction avaliable. Wondering if I can claim through paypal after too.
Hi sorry for the late response. I wish ozbargain had notification for comment replies. Anyway my return shipping claim got rejected because I used a gift card but I read a reddit post saying that you can claim a refund from the deduction here - https://www.reddit.com/r/UKPersonalFinance/comments/kvpa01/h…
The funny thing is even though I didn't end up getting the shipping refund from paypal I still got refunded for the shipping from ebay because they calculated the coupon amount wrong. So instead of the original payment being $500 - $40 coupon = $460 payment it became $500 - $20 coupon and $20 return postage = $460 refund.
If you are registered to that PayPal program, on the ebay return you choose postage that you supply yourself'. Go to post office then pay for shipping them upload the receipt to PayPal.
