Is There a Quick Way to Get Illegally Parked Vehicles on Clearways Towed?

For whatever reason, during school holidays, there are more illegally parked vehicles on clearways. Do people think the signs don't apply during school holidays?

Do people think the signs don't apply during school holidays?

Yes. Drives me up the wall.

You can call the council, they'll send a ticket person, but depending on the specific road, that may be all that can be accomplished.

Some councils have dob-in forms that you can attach a photo and submit. See if yours have one.

      • I've used Snap Send Solve, for people parked over my driveway, but the response time was 2 days and the car had moved by then. I was advised to call them in future.

    • Yep, one place I used to work once the blocks opposite were developed we used to get people squeezing in and parking with their nose or tail just into our driveway making it harder for the B doubles to turn in and out (one of them hooked a car and dragged it half way down the street once) so we'd be calling the council multiple times a day and ranger would quickly turn up and issue a couple of fines. They're more than happy to come and collect the revenue.

  • If the Clearway has 'TOW AWAY' written on it, then the car will be towed by Department of Transport (VicRoads), if in Victoria. Outside of that, Council will/can infringe it.

    • Yes in Vic. Toorak/Malvern/Armadale area. In the past, whenever I see illegally parked cars, they would have been ticketed by the council already and I see parking officers driving around in their Camrys. But I don't seem to see that any more.

for these suburbs it would be cheaper to pay the fine actually…

        • Maybe we need the equivalent of those hooning laws? Third strike and the car is gone?

@kyle: Finland type of laws. the fine is proportional to your earnings.

            • @apple2016: If the driver doesn't work, so it's household income?

I used to often see tow trucks around parked the corners of clearways ready to tow any cars that are still there when the clocks tick over. I haven't been out that much lately, so not sure if that still happens.

    • I actually haven't seen too many tow trucks around in the past year or so.

This still happens a lot. In the past 3 weeks I’ve seen 4 cars towed away from clear way zones in south Yarra and hawthorn just on my way to and from work. Whenever you see an empty tow truck between 4pm and 6pm cruising around his looking for them. I have zero sympathy for the cars towed, they cause traffic madness

    • I remember that too… but these days probably too hard for them to get paid…

The clear way near my wife’s work (in Balwyn) are like clockwork ninjas. Second it ticks over to the clear way zone, your car gets towed

    • Rightly so!

Redirect them to Malvern, especially around Malvern Rd near the Tooronga Rd intersection and often outside of Petbarn.

      • Sometimes it feels like every cafe on Swan St in the morning has a Ranger/Hilux parked out front while the owner gets a coffee.
