AFTER20

Some of the parts for my new build I've been watching are finally on sale:

Asus TUF Z690-PLUS Wifi LGA 1700 DDR4 ATX Motherboard is discounted from $389 to $365 on the 21st April making it the cheapest in aus I could find. Plus the $20 off with after pay brings it down to $345.

Corsair 16GB (2x8gb) 3600MHz CL18 DDR4 RAM is $119 the $20 off with after pay brings it down to $99. I have bought 2 of these making a total of 32GB for my new build.

Corsair 1000W HX1000 80 Plus Platinum High Performance Power Supply is discounted from $309 to $250 making it one of the cheapest in aus I could find. Plus the $20 off with after pay brings it down to $230. For those on a budget a 750w 80+ gold should be enough but pc part picker already estimates my wattage at 598w and I want the option to be able to upgrade my gpu in future.

For those interested this is the build I'm looking at to make with these parts. PC Part Picker
Waiting for a 12700k sale and 3070ti is a placeholder until there is a nice 12gb GPU. (Will be using my old RTX 2060 6GB while I wait)

First time posing so please let me know if there are any issues.

  • Nice, I'm also waiting on a 12700k discount for a new build as well.
Just wondering why you are going for the K CPU when you have/want a GPU? The KF is $30 less.

I am currently using the 9400F and when my RTX 2060 pooped itself I had to send it back under warranty. It was annoying having to source a temporary gpu so I could even use my pc for the month I didn't have a GPU. If you find a good deal on the KF or on a tight budget it's a great choice!

      • Ok, that's totally fair. I prefer the K as I'm not much of a gamer, and I probably won't replace my GPU (at least for a while) if/when it dies.

    • Waiting my build to discount too, AMD though, EoFY is just around the corner, hopefully we can have some good deal towards that. Personally haven't seen many good deals for CPU/mobo since last June….

      • Yeah, I'm hoping for a sale for the 12700k in the $300 to $4xx range. Fingers crossed for EoFY!

its better to get the K, if your gpu dies at least you can still use ur pc

  • @WonMoreDollar - I love PC Part Picker.

You'd be better off to add a liquid cooler to your build, I just bought this the other day - SilverStone PF120-ARGB Liquid CPU Cooler and it dropped my i7 4790K temps about 20 degrees or so.

That PSU is overkill in my opinion. PC Part Picker can provide power estimates.

    Cheers!

A quick look on umart and that AIO is $78 with after pay making it $58! Looks like a great deal. Unfortunately for me I've already purchased the AS500 plus.

For the PSU I agree it's overkill, however I have the option to upgrade to RTX40xx or 50xx when pcie 5 GPU cards come out. The extra power will give good a buffer for overclocking since pcpartpicker is already estimating 600w usage. That gives 200w buffer since I don't want my psu to go over 80% load.

    • I'm not sure how Linus Tech Tips is generally considered (but they seem to be decent to me), but they claim watercooling actually performs worse for sustained cooling along with more risks of failure, but is better for burst cooling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23vjWtUpItk

I just stuck one of the cheapest air coolers - a coolermaster h412r - on my 12400f, after using the stock cooler for a few weeks, and it seems to have kept the CPU from being able to break 50 degrees whereas before it was rushing up to something like 70s and 80s pretty quickly on heavy tasks from what I remember vaguely seeing. While I can't remember the exact temps, it was bad enough that it drove me to instantly buy the lg1700 bracket for the cooler I had.

  • @WonMoreDollar - I'd also suggest getting a different graphics card. Try and get one with 12GB RAM.

      Yep :), I'm waiting to see if they release a 3070 12gb or 3070ti 12gb.

  • I bought an MSI 3060 Graphics Video Card GeForce RTX3060 GAMING X 12GB last week via eBay pretty cheap. Plenty on eBay for a good price. Scorptec have some good offers at the moment on GPUs. I'm getting about 120FPS on COD Modern Warfare paired with an SSD and 16GB of RAM.
