  • Anyone know of this is a good dac/amp for $500 headphones?

    • +2

Your Beats Studio are bluetooth :D

Seriously if you've just spent $500 on headphones then you probably should be researching if you need a DAC/amp

      • Haha your very funny but I have never bought any Bluetooth headphones

      • I haven't bought them yet.
I want to have something to start off with instead of onboard.

    • the minimum i would get for $500 headphones is a schiit stack modi and magni.

      • That's fair but I haven't seen any deals on them

        • They are out of stock everywhere in australia, you would have to buy them directly from the usa store and ship them here yourself.

    • I'd recommend a JDS Atom paired with any decent DAC. I believe the Atom is $99 USD + shipping at JDS' store.

Hell you probably don't even need a DAC, most onboard audio these days is sufficient.

    • I was using one of these for a while and it was a solid combo for a cheap entry point. If your headphones are good, I would suggest going for a Magni/Modi Stack from Schiit.

My wife is using the Fosi now with the Sennheiser Momentum wired and it does make a noticible difference in sound quality. Its a great gateway into spending your life's savings on amps and DACs.

    • it depends on your heaphonse, this DAC can power 16 ohms to 250 ohm heaphones.

  • Is this better than onboard ?

  • Creative has some great collection of DAC for your needs. Great for the price range too

  • It's meh. It has software volume control though so forget about using headphones and the rear RCA jacks for other stuff without having to adjust the volume all the time.

It also uses a TPA6120A2 so unless it's been modified the output impedance is around 8-10 ohms.
