40" Full HD Smart TV for SBS on Demand and Les Mills Online

I found that many full hd smart tvs have a limited browser and services like SBS on demand would not work.
What is the cheapest smart tv option to get video services like SBS on demand and subscription services like Les Mills workouts.

you are better off buying a TV that looks great and then using an nvidia shield, apple tv, amazon fire, roku stick or any of the other "smart" boxes to it. personally i would put the amazon fire last (don't like amazon and they recently updated it so you can't install custom ROMs to get rid of ads). the most expensive of these smart boxes being the nvidia shield at 150 - 300 dollars depending on the model.

if you already have a TV that you like the look of, and just don't like it's smart functions, just buy a smart box, you'll save a lot

you didn't mention Google TV with remote. Very affordable.

Otherwise OP - what Alasdair said.

Apart from saving money (as long as current TV has HDMI input), you'll also be able to:
      a) take the smart box with you when you travel, and
      b) upgrade just TV if smart box dies (or you give it away), or vice versa

The smarts in a smart tv will reduce in smarts as time goes on.

      • forgot about that one, also the apple tv is the most expensive along with the nvidia shield but i forgot to add that when i edited and now i can't edit anymore

  • Could get a Telstra TV 2. I know it’s an app on it

  • Cheap Ultra HD TV with an Android media player that supports Android TV. You may have to side load apps, but allot cheaper and better in the long run. If the Android player sucks in a few years you get a new one. There are Android Media players available on ebay for around the $80 that are good. You can get cheaper, but they may not last a few years.

If you want a full HD 40" TV that is smart then you only have a very limited number of retailers to look at and I have no idea who still stokes 40" FHD tv's.

  • I looked at some older posts here. Any preferences between chromecast, amlogic and mi box s?
These 3 seemed to be most recommended in ozb.

    • Chromecast 1 will be the cheapest option.

  • If you get a TV/STB that runs Android/Google TV, it's a pretty good bet that all Android apps will be available on it, including all the FTA apps and usual streaming apps. And it if it doesn't, a Chromecast with Google TV is really good value for money.

  • I have a Sony and it runs SBS, etc
