Renpho Smart AI Bike $680 Shipped @ Renpho

540
EASTEREGG

Yes yes I always harp on about renpho with their constant spamazon but this seems to be a decent price and worth the gamble as reviews seem ok (but suspect of being incentivised) and and compatible with zswift. Renpho has their own free training app too. Didn’t even realise old mate renpho did a bike until @jasonc pointed it out.

Amazon has it at $799 with coupon which is also shipped via renpho direct not amazon handled.

code easteregg seems to give 15% off the $799 price - not sure if intentional as it says at top banner code is for 10% but then the home page says 15%.

Pay via PayPal and 28 degrees for extra protection in case the poo hits the fan. I suggest strongly you do the same if you consider.

The website seems to be based on shopify as far as I can tell and payment is to TIT INTERNATIONAL LIMITED which seems to own the rights to the RENPHO name. Similarly the contact number is same as the contact number listed on their amazon store.

No abn and it does say 2-3 weeks shipping so it’s clear this is coming direct from overseas and prob their way of ducking any ACCC/ACL obligations. Similar lead time on amazon.

Alternate option if you want a real bike you can also ride outside is this option as per @kickling and @drakesy

Kmart bike $129 : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/694555
Tacx Boost $349 :
https://www.pushys.com.au/tacx-boost-indoor-trainer-bundle.h…

Then for app, Use z swift or RGT if you want free option.

  • anyone know will there be anymore of these to buy? is there alternative just as good?

      1. Yes but prob not right now, and prob not at same price. You can get 10% off code for signing up to newsletter.

      2. Not at this price if you care about dynamic resistance interaction via app (zswift or renpho or whatever)

      • ok cheers thanks

  • Was on site as pre order but won't accept the easteregg discount code anymore

    I also got the email…

"We've got some updates regarding the ordered AI Smart Bike. Due to the logistics delays, we will dispatch your order in early June."

What a joke. Guess I better start looking for a muumuu while I continue to progress through the kids easter chocolates

    • If I had the same email I’d ask for a refund. That eta was not specified at time of order and misleading.

  • So I assembled, connected and tried it out this evening. I knew what to expect from watching and reading the numerous reviews, but all I can say so far is that it's exceeded my expectations.

The two most common criticisms from the reviews, especially on Amazon, have been the lack of the bottle holder and the uncomfortable seat. Looks like they've listened, as this bike comes with both a bottle holder and a plush seat (hard core road cyclists will no doubt what to replace it).

I do have one annoyance, and it's not minor. After installing AI Gym on my Samsung Galaxy S7 tablet, Google Play Store told me that "the app has not been optimised for my device". What this meant in reality is that in order to logon and navigate the app, the tablet is forced in portrait mode. Once you actually start your exercise, it switches to landscape. So I always have to physically rotate it before starting the ride. And yes, my auto-rotate was on. Obviously, the app was developed for phones. Not sure if it's the same on an iPad.

    • I have iPad and iPhone will report back when I get around to building mine. I did get around to getting it home today.

    • I can confirm the auto rotate issue is same with iPad AND iPhone. That is REALLY annoying imo especially with iPad. Probably would be even more annoying when casted to a TV. Almost like they just didn’t test the app properly. I also had issues with iPhone app not being able to start the workout it just gets stuck at get ready stage. Works fine with iPad though and I did reset and reinstall. Have reached out to support but I’m not holding breath for any meaningful support. - or even an intelligible answer other than some poorly translated google garble.

as you said - yes seat is good, and they did include the bottle holder. I believe they have also updated the foot straps to a quick release style, the manual still shows a manual lock style. So that’s prob a plus.

Assembly was a bit average with vague instructions. It can be done by 1 person without help so that’s a plus.

For some reason mine came with two power supplies. They both had different secondary plugs but rated for same output. I liked how it was a standard 12vdc power supply. Pretty easily sourced in event of failure.

Did a 1km ride in the test app - pretty smooth, thought the dead zone at top of the rotation would annoy me but not really an issue imo (fwiw I don’t know how to ride a bike but I did used to do a lot of bike riding on stationary bikes at gym during my younger years).

      • I honestly think it's a design decision, rather than a bug. They correctly assumed that most people would be using the app with a phone and navigating the app in landscape mode would be a pain. Besides, it's much easier rotating the phone than a tablet. Maintaining a separate version of the app for a tablet on each OS would be a expensive, so they've settled on this compromise. Does anyone know how Zwift or Peloton handle this, as I haven't used either. There's a chance that it's the same.

The dead zone is virtually unnoticeable under low resistance, but can get quite annoying with heavy resistance.

Mine also came with two power supplies but they were identical and the first one I tried didn't work, but the second one was fine. I suspect they had sourced these cheaply and had a high failure rate, so decided that it was cheaper for them to include a spare one than to ship a replacement and deal with warranty claims. Not sure if there's another explanation for this.

All-in-all, I think still it's a bargain for a complete stand-alone solution with a very comprehensive app that doesn't require any additional or ongoing investment.

I assume you got prompted to update the firmware after connecting it? I suggest you take the FTP test first, so that the programs are better tailored to your level of fitness. It will also help you monitor your progress over time.

        • Yes fw prompted which was good, the other reviews said they had to submit a serial before they could be isssued a fw update.. but glad to see it’s painless now.

And yes possibly - just so random though.
Like maybe they expect the two power supplies would be enough to just get over the 12 month warranty.

Zswift has a free 7 day app, will probably try that once I get sick of the renpho app.

In the renpho app when you do the scenic tours is is supposed to speed up the faster you go? I tried slow and hard out but the speed I was going didn’t seem to really differ visibly.

I overall satisfied with the purchase at 680 shipped. $799 is a bit much.

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Can you folks test out a standing ride (ie. bum off seat) to see if it's reasonably stable?

            • @andresampras: Renpho: ‘ Note: We don't recommend standing up riding on AI bike.’

That being said when not peddling the bike does feel reasonably steady.

  • +1

looks like they're taking back orders still worth it for the 799? value still good? walking at nite don't feel safe these days hoping this will help?

    • I will negotiate to see if those interested can get 15% off again for preorders.

      • Thanks. Would be great. I emailed them yesterday as the site still said 15% off on tue oreorder oage but they never emailed back about it 😞

        • I was getting replies always late at night when I was originally asking about when my order would ship, typically 48 hours between. Bit worried if I ever have to chase up a warranty tbh

After the Renpho was out of stock I did a reasonable on low cost alternatives to Peleton and found the Joroto to have the best reviews for the budget conscious. There isn't an app included with it and you will need extra add-ons to measure cadence for use with Zwift and Peleton to their full extent. In the end, I got the Yesoul S3 which does measure cadence without having to use add-ons. The Yesoul also has good reviews for a beginner styled bike and it'll work with Zwift with Peleton. There is a Yesoul app that has free workout programs although no where near the amount of free programs as the Renpho. Price of the Yesoul is hundreds less than the Renpho though. The heart rate monitor isn't included in the Australian model, my Mi Band 6 works fine with it via bluetooth so I imagine other HRM will work fine as well. Had it for a few days now and build quality is decent, it's super silent and has magnetic resistance.

Yesoul looks to be 599 at most sources ? What price did you end up paying?

        • +1

Originally it was going to be the 599 less a 50 ebay coupon that applied at the time. One of the sellers had a demo/pre-assembled one for 469 after the 50 coupon so I snapped that up. I noticed Gearbite it on special a few months back for 467 new: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/680039

          • @isaiah247: 467 is a sick price indeed

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: A very attractive price indeed, especially for a bike with magnetic resistance, but what would be the total cost of ownership over say 3 or 5 years with a Swift or similar subscription vs the Renpho that works well stand-alone?

              • @elektron: 3 years of decent use would be a Christmas miracle for either unit I reckon haha

                • @Jimothy Wongingtons: As I've said before, this is my fourth Renpho product and I haven't had any issues with any of them so far. The original smart scale hasn't skipped a bit in years and I've even given a few as presents to friends and family members.

          • @isaiah247: hi there. now you've had the yesoul for a couple of weeks, what are your thoughts?

EDIT: Found what seems to be a balanced review here: https://the-home-gym.com/yesoul-s3-indoor-cycling-bike-revie…

            • +1

@andresampras: That review you posted covers virtually everything one needs to know initially. I was very keen to get a bike and the Renpho seemed perfect and was disappointed when it was OOS.
Then i did almost a day's worth of youtubing of reviews then narrowed it down to the same Joroto, Yosuda and Yesoul models the article talks about. Taller folks or people intending on high power use straight away would be better suited to the other bikes. i'm 170cm so not that tall nor stocky nor going to need something that withstands heavy duty use in the short term and so didnt need a heavier more solid frame or higher resistance levels that the first two have. Yesoul s3 is sold by some fitness online stores that also sell premium brands like Schwinn. So it seems like a credible fitness brand and not just a generic brand. It is better priced and are a brand that specialises in fitness products i believe unlike Renpho who do other things as well. As someone who looking for a beginner bike initially but also intends to progress my biking skills and fitness to a high level in the future i see the lack of free programs on the Yesoul app as a very minor thing. Reviews ive seen talking by people who are serious about fitness and spin biking via a budget alternative to the full and expensive Peleton bike have talked about getting one of the Joroto and Yosuda (not the Yesoul) and then they do sign up to the Peleton app or other apps because those paid membership apps are do help you progress skills and fitness levels better than what free or cheaper app memberships can do, simply because the class trainers on those apps like Peleton are fitness pros and the classes and app do happen to be better designed to provide a better user experience than what free apps can deliver. One thing about the Yesoul app is that on my Oppo phone it logs me out of the app intermittently and needs a reboot sometimes before it detects the Mi Band hear rate monitor. Relatively minor issues as once ive started the timed cycling program itself, the app is stable. It's visually nice and does not look out of place in my lounge room in front of the Tv that i screencast the Yesoul app to. So very, very happy with it so far.

              • @isaiah247: Thanks for that info.

                Two questions:
                - Do you find the 7.5kg flywheel offers enough continuity/momentum ykwim?
                - How well does it handle riding out of the saddle (standing)? I'm a similar height to you. Do you have to be aware of your position at all times, or can it handle some side-to-side vigorous pedalling while standing?

                • @andresampras: The flywheel is light so momemtum will for some people be a bit lacking. For me its fine as momentum level is good enough and not something i notice much when riding. The smoothness remains great. Simulating an uphill sprint the resistance was set at max level of 100. I got fatigued soon enough although i hoped for more resistance similar to that on really steep hill. Stability remained pretty good. Didnt need to retain full awareness of position to ensure it didnt tip over. It does rock ever slightly but not enough to be disconcerting. A standing ride is absolutely fine unless for heavier folk or those that try to force it tip. I notice the handle bars and the tablet holder that are connected as one piece wavers a little. It remains stable vertically yet rotates slightly horizontally up to 3-4 degrees which i have not found a way yet to fix. That does not affect the riding experience though unless you consciously notice it on a standing ride. The pedals seem to be of cheaper plastic. I anticipate having to replace them with better ones in the future, possibly with steel ones or the ones with cleats.

                  • @isaiah247: That's fantastic info, thanks for your detailed writeup.

At this point I'm leaning a bit toward the Renpho, for its 'freewheel' mechanism and free content and potential Zwift (and maybe other apps) compatibility, although these aren't officially supported. Their support response seems to be good as well, based on forums.

The main downside for me seems to be the off-saddle riding stability, for which I suppose I can get out into the real world once in a while hehe.

edit: it's a pity the Yesoul bikes can't do auto-resistance-adjustment (right?), otherwise they look really good

              • @isaiah247:

                i'm 170cm

I'm 180 and the renpho has been surprisingly pretty good was worried about uncomfortable

  • Got the 'logistics email'. I'll wait for it since it was a good price. I'll use my road bike in the mean time to get me exercise!

  • Instructions were a bit garbage but got there in the end. Overall build quality decent. Yet to try out the app or operation of the bike.

  • +1

Mine arrived today so I think they might be coming back in stock. Very impressed with the build quality and it was easy to put together. There are unboxing vids on youtube that show you how to assemble if you need guidance.

2 power packs as well. Went for one quick ride and it seemed very smooth and stable. Haven't tried the app out yet.

All in all a very customer here and glad I didn't cancel due to the delay.

Thanks again to OP for the post.

    • Cool mate - glad to hear.
Im happy you got it sooner than expected.
Ive also been suss about the 2 power supplies.
imo dont need video guidance, its relatively straight forward even if you went into it blindly. And if anything, the instructions confuse the issue more than anything.

The next shipment is confirmed due around mid june i've been told by their rep (and confirmed via their website).

I've been negotiating with them for 2 weeks to bring back an Ozbargain exclusive 15% off again for those that missed out.

    • Did you get an email or any tracking provided?

      • +1

you get tracking when its sent

        • Cool wasn't sure as I am waiting but currently away

  • How do you like it? Could you post a short review of the bike?
I am eyeing the bike too and thinking of ordering it! Cheers!

    • +2

I've clocked up about 100km roughly over 3 weeks.
For the money I am very impressed. I am pleased to see that the overly positive reviews on various sites had SOME element of truth to them :)

I thought I would find the renpho AI gym app lacking and need to go zwift but for what it is, it's actually pretty good.
and FREE is the right price for the app haha.

I find the seat is too hard - but it could also be how i ride?

FWIW i am a totally beginner rider - i dont even know how to ride an actual bike.

I'm still trying to get another 15% off code over the line with supplier for ozbargain community.

      • As a long time rider who went into a long time hiatus after acl ruptures and knee surgery I am liking this bike a lot.

There is plenty of padding in that seat and it is well shaped, it will just take time for your bum to adapt to the new pressure points. Just like with a real bike.

        • Nice mate glad you liked it.

Yeah I usually do 40 min+ sessions and by the end I’m usually a bit sore down there… still trying to find the best weight distribution.

Are you using zswift or the ai gym app?

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: ai app when i need. But at this stage of my rehab just prefer to set my own pace as required with my own soundtrack in the background - matching cadence with the bpm of my favourite tracks. Or just hit replay on Stones' Gimme Shelter at 119 bpm over and over again with different resistance until I'm ready for some sprint work to end. Don't really need the faux visual simulation tbh.

      • Thanks, I just placed an order for it yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't get a notification that you had posted a 15% discount coupon.
        Oh well!
Looking fwd to the bike, and hoping to put regular KMs in it! Cheers!

        • im sure it would not be a drama to cancel it and re-order - wouldnt hurt to ask.

Idk when you placed your order, but new orders as of yesterday late arvo will have a bonus smart measuring tape thrown in.

  • +1

15% off code is live again from a negotiated code for the ozbargain community.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/699318

  • Hmm just got a email saying it has shipped. Looking forward to it again

    • Yep, the rep just updated me to say orders are shipping ahead of schedule!
