Blackburn tends to be quite overpriced and not really worth it. They used to be one of the best, but have now been overtaken by cheaper and better models. Consider this instead. https://dashcamtalk.com/viofo-a129-pro-duo-4k/

i agree, but i think the a129 plus is actually better than the pro version. it is only 2 k, compared to the pro versions 4k, but it is 60 fps in the front (which is important for capturing licence plates while moving) and it doesn't have the same overheating problems that the pro version does.

i watched a lot of different dashcam reviews and comparisons and i was wondering why people were spending close to 1 k for a dashcam that didn't have as clear an image as the viofos do.

      • Spot on! They used to be market leading at some point, but others are now better and cheaper but some people haven't caught on.

      • Do you need to buy a wiring kit for the plus? How does the parking mode work? Motion detection or does it only record if there's a collision?

        • you only need to hard wire it if your cars cigarette lighter isn't always powered (afaik, most are unpowered when you turn off the car) and you want to use the parking mode. one or more of the parking modes are disabled on the a129 plus, i couldn't tell you which because i don't use them (i just plug it into cigarette lighter) but i think it still has 1 parking mode enabled, not sure though. if you want parking mode, you should go the normal a129 or the a129 pro, i would go the normal a129 as the pro has had overheating issues and will use a lot more space on the memory card, especially if you use parking mode.

Totally agree with this. Have been running a plus for 3 years zero issues. Best camera I've ever had. Have used all the other Viofo models too.

Paired with a Cellink Neo 6 battery pack the camera is on basically always.
I used to use the event detection mode but it has a couple of bugs and does occasionally overheat. I've since swapped to low bit rate mode and have had fantastic results.

I stand by the fact 4k is overkill for what you would realistically only need 30 seconds of footage.

I have the 750s model with power magic pro which is handy as I can flick a switch to turn parking mode on and off.

How does this work with the 750x? Can you easily turn off parking mode when not needed?

    • Not if you hardwire/tap into the fuse block. It's either in driving mode or parking mode. That said, you can always pull the power plug out of the camera.

      • Ah I see… Thars a bit of a negative.

When I get home I just switch my dash cam off.. No need to have it running in the garage and taxing the car battery.

        • Google tells me PMP is still compatible with Dr750x.. So you can still use the toggle feature if you wish.

@Circly: I have this camera installed. You have two options 1) pull the power plug out (which I find annoying) or 2) install PMP but with this model PMP will delay 'parking mode' by 5min once you turn off the engine off (camera will be running in 'normal mode' before it will switch to 'parking mode', however if you hard wire without PMP then 'parking mode' will be on right after you turn the ignition key off. Anyway, it's a bit ridiculous you can't have control over these things at this price. Imho this whole Blackvue is heavily overpriced and marketing gimmick. Video quality is not better than in cameras for $100. Remember, video quality in dashcams is not about nice colors, satuartion and bla bla but about frames per seconds and bitrate, which both lacking in today's dash cam market so they're making it up with marketing gimmicks.

            • @wallaby12: Thank you! That's quite informative.

Tbh I'd just get a dr750s if that was still available… Not sure if the built in power metre is worth it without a toggle switch.

Yeah… They do seem a bit overpriced. You'd hope they have better QC and longer life span given they cost more.

Besides Viofo are there any other brands that seem just as good for cheaper?

    • You can use the app to turn off the parking mode, I only turn parking mode on when I park in some areas. The video quality is not as good as I would expect for the hefty price, besides it was on special for only $417.75 just end of last year.

      • Oh damn now that's a deal!

      • oops, was $471.75, not $417.75

Was just about to post this deal lol

  • Pity they charge so much for install, quoted me a little over $400

    • I was a bit uneasy to install it on my brand new car but I surprised myself with how easy it was to install in the end.

      • +1

Yep, installed 750 2ch on my brand new car. Used a trim remover tool and ran the wires and everything hidden for both cameras and I'm pretty particular, cable ties evenly spaced etc, I was pretty happy at the end, cost me nothing but a couple hours time, did it myself, learnt more about my car, know it's not been a butchered install, and the satisfaction of learning and knowing I did it all myself was far more worthwhile.

    • I paid $200 at a car audio electrical place (3 door hatch).
