To be fair, 8% is 2 cans of damage for the effort of one.

      • Thanks, Ben. My thoughts exactly.

Do you know anything about beer? Judging by your post, probably not.

I know enough to know that I can get 2 cartons of great tasting beer for half that. What a joke.

        • Which beers?

    IPAs $179.95

    😲

    • Citra mosaic is 7.2% so almost DIPA strength and @ 8.0% the SMASH! is a DIPA.

$110 per IPA case is realistic for something like this. Especially when comparing to some of the leading brewers i.e. $110 Bentspoke Sprocket. So kinda a deal - but it's exaggerated. RRP look more like what you pay for IIPA.

    • Yes, the SMASH is a Double IPA. So why our RRP is what we retail full cartons at. It is the excise tax that is the killer and that has just gone up. These are 7.2% and 8.0% beers so they do pack a punch. So instead of drinking a six-pack, we recommend drinking a few less and savouring the flavours.

      • At least IIPA is still cheaper then unleaded fuel.
I do enjoy these beers. They're very tasty.

        • Thanks for your kind words!

      • Excise tax .. boooo - hiss! Shameful the tax we have to pay on craft beer.
Hey what's the deal with you guys not being on the IBA register?

        • Not sure. I will check as I am sure we paid the bill. I will get someone to check it out.

Excise tax .. boooo - hiss!

Didn't the government just halve this for 6 months ?

  • Ordered thanks, enjoyed the last combo of XPA & Hazy Pale Ale, hope these are better!

    • Thanks for your support!

      • Tried the SMASH! Nelson Sauvin Double IPA last night and it was excellent, Citra Mosaic IPA is in the fridge for tonight.

  • with a Punch

    Will Smith does not approve.

  • Ordered, fingers crossed they good as hard to get through 24x 8%'ers if you dont like them ;)

    • after the first 2-3 it gets a lot easier.

  • It's all happening on the Northern Peninsula - Brookvale Union - Best Ginger Beer, alongside 4 Pines who aren't too shabby and you guys. Just wish I had a 6 figure salary to be able to enjoy all this wonderful liquid.

    • It's becoming a beer lover's mecca! Our Ginger Beer is also quite delicious…

I'm bemused by the notion that doubling the alcohol content of a 'beer' (?) justifies charging ~$12 per can for it. That is bizarre on multiple levels. Beer is not 'supposed' to have an alcohol content over about 7%; because after that it ceases to be what can be realistically called 'beer'. Personally I make an exception for the famous 'elephant beer' (because it's epic); but not this weird attempt at … I'm not sure what? You allude to the excise in a feeble attempt to justify a ludicrous price, but the fact is the excise on beer is not directly proportional to the final sale price of that beer.

I call shenanigans, in the highest order.

Beer is not supposed to have an ABV of over 7%? Maybe do some research on beer over the last few hundred years.

Beer tax for beer over 3.5% (non kegged) is $53.59/litre (less the 1.15% alcohol not taxed)

So for average pale ale at 5%abv, 24x375ml cans is ~0.35LAL, or about $18.50 tax
For an 8% of the same volume is ~0.62LAL, or about $33 tax.

Ignoring the fact that higher abv beer like these requires about twice the malt bill, would have easily 4-10x the hop quantities/costs, and is made and sold in smaller total volumes than every day pale ale….

You could have just said you don't like high abv beers, or highly hopped beers, or just kept it to yourself.
But saying a beer over 7% isn't beer, well….there's probably a few Belgian monks in history that would like to give you some history lessons.
