SO the hinge in my Asus N61 broke today, luckily not the one connecting to the display to the motherboard. But I'm out of the 2 years warranty from 3rd March 2012.
Am I eligible for the ACCC 3 years warranty or is it only for new warranties and not applicable to products purchased 2 years ago.
If I am, how do I initiate the warranty with Asus?

Cheers man.
I'll shoot off an email to Asus, it's bloody annoying waking up Saturday with a broken hinge. If only it had happened on Friday
I'm right there with ya dude; don't get me started on things happening on Friday arvo/Saturday morning! :(

I'm alittle confused. Whats ACCC 3 years warranty ?
So can you purchase extended warranty even after the manufacture warraty runs out?

Which means I'm out of luck for now.
You may be entitled to statutory warranty, but given that it's a hinge they may be able to weasel out of that one as they can argue moving parts & they don't know how many times or the way it's been mechanically operated.
I'd give it a go though, a polite email to Asus support first off explaining the situation & asking if they can help would be the first port of call.
If that's a no go, call your local Office of Fair Trading & ask for their take on the matter, they will usually have a good idea if it's a valid claim & worth pursuing. They can advise you on the next step, usually a letter of demand with the wording FT give you is enough to motivate most businesses. :)
