Thanks for posting this. I literally had this in my cart a couple hours ago and it was 149, no further discount. Glad i waited!

Could have easily cancelled and reordered for cheaper price.

      Good toothbrush.

      • +1

Honestly i just got caught up doing something else and forgot I wanted to buy, but yeah, valid point.

It is a great price for 9000, thanks for sharing. However, one needs to keep in mind that if we compare the "skeleton functions" of a brush, such as the number and power of rotations and oscilations, battery and basic functions, they are all the same starting from Oral B 2000. Oral B 4000 is around $99 right now. Realistically, you get mostly marketing features by paying $20 extra.
One handy feature that 9000 has though is USB charging. May be handy when treveling.

Li-ion battery is so much better in these

      • +6

Oral-B 2000 up to 9000 share the same battery.

        • Oh great, thanks! My old 5000 has NiMH and I need to upgrade so thanks for the details

      • +2

Battery probably better on the 2000 due to lack of (useless) 'smart' features

    • +1

When I travel I just take a normal wall charger for it as have a few and it’s easier as stands upright and don’t get to take the head off it to charge

    • +2

IMO the pressure warning feature is also very valuable, particularly for those moving to an electric brush from manual.

      • Yes, I know that 4000 has it, unsure about 2000.

  • I had this a while back bought from costco for $150ish. Not the biggest fan of it, given lots of the functions/speed options were useless and it tended to collect lots of the toothpaste gunk around the rubber/seals and you couldn't remove it. Charger died after 18 months and costco refunded me. Bought pro 500, no issues so far

    • Was it easy getting the refund at Costco? I bought headphones in Dec 20 and the sound has been off for a few months…was going to try my luck for a refund.

    • How do you manage the receipts in general? I tend to loose them afte one week.

      • +1

Should be listed in your membership account, I assume.

        • +2

Correct. No need for receipts at Costco ever.

Great toothbrush with the exception of the colour. After a few years the rubber around the bottom discolours and there’s nothing you can do to stop it looking a little grotty. The black version doesn’t look as nice but you wouldn’t have that issue.

That said, I’d buy this to replace mine if I needed a new toothbrush in a heartbeat; it’s been so good to use. The USB charging for your phone is brilliant when travelling and the newer, more expensive model brushes don’t have this feature.

  • I'm sharing an 8000 with my partner right now, I bought a 9000 two years ago and I broke it two weeks later (dropped it).

Really tempted to get this but the 8000 is the same and still works fine… decisions decisions

  • Has anyone used the new iO brushes? I've been waiting for a decent deal. Been using this kind of toothbrush for ~6 years now and thinking it's time to level up?

    • +2

Oral B iO 6 is $209.99 now with prime.

I like the vibration of iO it feels more gentler compared to genius series. But for $91 less I went with 9000 Genius. If I already had 8000 I would wait for iO to drop more and get an iO instead of getting 9000.

Here is the comparison between iO and Genius 9000

      • Someone must have saw your comment as it's back up to RRP, but thank you!!

  • Fantastic price everyone should snap one up

The smart travel case isn't smart.
If it was you could charge it using USB rather than needing an Australian plug and pin converter when you go overseas.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but there are definitely some issues with these models. I own the AI Genius and I had to return 3 of them because all of them died after a couple of months. Can't be that unlucky?

    • My 9000 also died. Opened mine up and turns out they ain’t that water resistant. Had heaps of rust and that was just from washing the head normally.

Now using a sonicare and the water sealing appears to be much better.

  • I don't know what some of you guys are doing with yours but I've had mine for about 4 years and it's still going.

There was some mould that was growing at the bottom as a result of drying on a wet soapy surface but it's still working just fine.

After use, I wash it down, wipe it down and do the same with the toothbrush head

I bought mine for 180, which was a 'deal' back then. Rose gold.

    • So they are completely waterproof? Could you brush your teeth in the shower?

      • Yes, you can.

        • Thanks.

Don't forget the Star Wars limited edition one also on sale for $169 good for enhancing your midi-chlorian count

    • +1

I feel like paying $50 more for the exact same product apart from the theme would be against the OzBargain code.

  • -5

Amazing that people would pay this sort of money or more for a toothbrush. Vanity now lives in a toothbrush.

I think its a little vain to jump online and post on a topic you know little about.

      https://www.cochrane.org/CD002281/ORAL_poweredelectric-tooth….

      • You picked a survey from 2011 usage that was reported as moderate quality. My comment wasn't a comparison but the top end cost of an electric toothbrush based on fancy gadgetry and brand name as opposed to a standard electric as I have Thats a quarter of the cost and does the same job. So I feel I do know what I'm talking about and you misread the basis of my comment.

        • Generally, no one cares about your feelings on the internet :'(

          • -1

@bargone: Seems I touched the proven wrong nerve…

  • Switched to sonic toothbrushes a few years ago and have never looked back, teeth feel so much cleaner

    • So what's the difference between a tooth cleaned by an oral-b vs a sonic toothbrush… just has extra swoosh feel under the tongue?

    • As in actual tooth brushing nothing. Who actually needs bluetooth brushing.

  • Got one. Thanks, OP!

  • +2

    Thank-you OP 🙇‍♂️

Returning to an electric toothbrush after a long time. Have done well in recent years stopping decay and fillings, but now getting sensitivity from aggressive brushing causing some enamel erosion and gum recession despite ultra-soft bristled manual toothbrushes. Making the switch on my dentist's recommendation.

Was happy to just get the Pro 2000, which looks to have everything I would want. I guess the few extra features here, although not necessary, are nice for only a ~$40 increase.

Still waiting for io8 to drop back to 199 at shavershop. Regret not buying it when it was that price.

  • Awesome deal. Thanks for posting. We have had the old white one for several years without an issue and like another poster says, it goes a little yellow and mucky. Glad to replace it and bonus getting the USB travel case as well!
