  • I'm probably too early. It says coupon does not exist.

    • Sorry Wayne. Try again now. Cheers! RD :-)

  • 2021! Damn that's a young shiraz!

    • Nothing wrong with Joven/young wines. Younger, fresher, lighter style. But if you're after something a little older here's another two nodes for you ->

      2018 McLaren Vale Shiraz 3L -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693268
      2019 McLaren Vale Shiraz 98 & 96pt wine -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688033

      Something for everyone.

      Cheers! RD :-)

      • was hoping to order the dozen 2019 McLaren Vale Shiraz 98 & 96pt wine linked above but they don't appear to be in stock for the dozen, only per bottle which makes the coupon ineligible?

        • Link no longer seems to work - was looking at same option

          • @Parsimonious Pete: Sorry both. Looks to be out of stock with sales coming through this afternoon after a 'last orders call' to our database. Will update the OzB post accordingly. Cheers! RD :-)

      • I guess there are those who will enjoy a young Shiraz.

        Personally, I'd rather a quality pinot if it's young and light I'm looking for. For a full body dry red (my preference), I want a shiraz, and a rarely see a new buy that isn't at least 3-4 years old. I usually stock up on Pepperjack for single/couple consumption at home for <$15 (~4-6 years old), or Bin 28s and St. Hugo's for dinners and sharing for ~$30 (>7 years old), with a few Bin 128s and 389s cellaring (>10-12 years).

        I'm skeptical there's quality is this bottle of a 2021 Lakeside. The McLaren Reserve Shiraz looks okay, but for 2019 probably needs to be put away for at least a little while yet.

        • There are those of us that do enjoy young wines. Beaujoalis Nouveau, rioja joven and the rest.

          Pinot also a good option and we do a Pinot Noir in a similar style.

          As for the quality, I'll stand by it. The first 2021 release scored a nice 94pts & Top in category with Winestate Maagzine and frankly, if it was cr*p, we wouldn't put or name to it.

          As for the 2019, I'll leave someone else to provide you with a review of that from veteran wine writer, Ken Gargett:

          Bec Hardy Reserve Shiraz 2019 – The concept behind the ‘Reserve’ is, as they say – ‘some of our McLaren Vale parcels stand out from the others, these have more intensity, tannin and acidity. These parcels are kept separate and a higher proportion goes into new French oak’. The resulting wine is expected to show extra complexity and ageing potential for a decade, at least. This one ticks all the boxes. One suspects that the Hardy family, which traces its involvement in the Australian wine industry back for more than 150 years, would be very proud of what its latest member is doing.This is near opaque black. A mix of mulberries, raspberries and blackberries here. Roast meat, smoked notes and hints of the delicatessen. There is line and length. Good focus. Well-structured, finely balanced and with satiny tannins, this is undoubtedly made for the long haul. There is not a hair out of place. 95.

          Rather than be skeptical, take a plunge. Discover something new beyond the big boys :-)

          Cheers! RD :-)
