Nice price for those who don't mind the red colour and don't need the extra features that newer models provide

I too bought this watch last year (the black version) for about the same price as this deal.
I especially like the fact that it is NOT a touch screen yet does a whole bunch of "smart" stuff in addition to showing the time - GPS for activities, heart rate throughout the day/night, alerts for phone notifications etc.For my usage it has been perfect.
I almost bought it, but changed my mode when I realised it wasn’t touch screen. I used Apple Watch etc. before and quite like touch screen. Why do you like button controls. I might change my mind again :)
With buttons I can change/select things easily when "on the run" or without really paying attention.
It's like with your phone - if you type a message, you need to be paying full attention to exactly where your fingers land on the screen, otherwise you press on the incorrect character. Back in the days of "button" phones, you could type out a whole message just by feel, without looking at the screen at all (if you could remember where the letters were located under each number of course). It's a similar thing with the watch, if I get a notification, I can glance at it and then glance away. I can then, by feel, dismiss the notification with the press of a button. I don't need to be looking at the watch and making sure I am touching the exact, precise spot.
If I want to read more of the notification, again I can just scroll up and down with the buttons - I'm not swiping, mis-hitting and generally making a nuisance of myself. It's all about trying to be precise on a tiny little device and at the same time not having to dedicated 100% attention to what you are doing.
And of course, I am never worried about accidental touches when I adjust the watch, cross my arms etc etc.
It's the same sort of thing that people complain about some new'ish cars that have settings for the radio or A/C on a touch screen. They are much easier to adjust when they are a button or a knob, especially when you should be concentrating on something else (the road ahead of you).
Now, one caveat to my preference for physical buttons is that you are somewhat limited to the number of things you can do with buttons whereas a touch screen gives you pretty much unlimited scope to do all sorts of stuff. Typing a message by cycling through the alphabet one character at a time with buttons would be much more tedious than tapping on a screen.
But I don't really want to do all that sort of stuff on my watch - which is why I am more than happy with just buttons, and in fact prefer it.
For a phone, I am prepared to give up on the "no-look texting" that buttons provided for the advantages of all the other things I can do with a touch screen. Same for a tablet etc. But for a tiny little watch, I don't need to do all that other stuff and buttons are more than adequate for what I need to do.Hope this helps in your decision making :-)
Does this have paddle activity?
does this have any subscriptions?
No, Garmin doesn't do subscriptions. Buy the watch, get access to Garmin's services for free (some third party apps have paid for subscriptions)
That's good to know.
I don't like how pricey Fitbit premium is
Decent price for a decent watch. I bought one last year and it has pretty much everything I need. The only thing I felt that it lacked was the swimming function that the Suunto watch I had previously offered. In the end, it really made little difference as heart rate and time seemed to give good enough information.
