Howdy,
Basically I'm chasing a bit of advice on the cheapest time of year/method of flying to London, I figure with the upcoming Olympics it may skew things from 'normal' but any advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm looking at kicking off a working holiday (also a dual citizen) so it will be a one way flight but I don't mind going via somewhere else if it works out the same and I get to see somewhere cool as well (I have heard of going via Amsterdam and getting the train[?] over to London from there).
Departure would be from Perth but I anticipate heading to Singapore/KL/other regional hub first.
Thank you in advance.

There's a good general answer here regarding seasons, but you may be lucky and get a deal.

+1 yanimarj's comment re extra costs. Just go direct. Unless you want to sightsee.
Hi,
I'm hoping that the prices drop down low very low after the Olypmics.Does anyone know what time of the year different airlines bring out sales for london flights?
At ozbargain, what price would be considered a good bargain for syd-london return? Thanks,
SoujanyaHi,

Soujanyathe cheapest i can find is around $3000 return with emirates for our two weeks holiday June, surely there is a cheaper alternative ?
Have you tried some sites like www.zuji.com.au? I put in some dates in June and there were some fares upwards of $2400. Emirates is a premium airline, I'm not surprised you got a quote of $3000.
Thanks for that ! Got on Singapore for Around $2600 :)
P.S: Malaysia Airlines had an offer for $2000 return but for some reason didn't work for the dates we wanted, so others try that as well
cheers
I have been having a look around and so far worst case scenario is $240(ish) Perth to Kuala Lumpur (LCCT) on Air Asia pretty much available any dates as long as its Tues-Thurs at least a couple of months away (checked August and January, seems standard).
Then $550(ish) from Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) to London-Heathrow on on Malaysia Airlines with very similar availability.
I'm quite comfortable on Air Asia and hear Malaysia Airlines are even better.
The catch is that the flights don't line up for same day travel (especially since you have to get from the low cost carrier terminal to KL international terminal [same airport, different terminals] via customs both ways) but for the $10-20 a night it's going to cost me in KL I may as well stay there a week with the money I'd save.
I'll be keeping an eye out for the Air Asia sale starting midnight Tues/Wednesday (GMT+8) for an even better deal.Thank you all for your information and feedback, I'm all ears
Edit: Grammar
You realise that if you are going to overnight in KL, you'll have to catch transport to the city and back, unless you find accommodation near the airport. I think it's about 15MYR for the shuttle bus from the LCCT and 35MYR for the train to KLIA. Plus city public tranport. Not much but you need to factor another 15-20AUD for it.
Thanks for the heads up, I should have highlighted that but yes I realise the terminal is a fair way out of town and I was planning on using the shuttle/train (and definitely not a taxi), my main point was the cheapest I could find without a stayover on adisoso and webjet was around 1100-1200 (one-way) so even if it cost me $60-100 total for a night in KL I'd be well ahead (and hopefully reasonably well rested). Granted I never did a search including a stayover but it's sounding reasonable so far, and some sightseeing on the way is a bonus.
Mate, could you let us know if u manage to find any good deal on London flight.. I will update likewise. Cheers
Stay at Tune hotel at the LCCT
that's a great fare.. getting out of Oz is the most expensive.. but if you can get to KL, then i think you are onto something good.
I did frequent flyers with Sing to KL, then KL to Europe with Malaysaia for 675 AUD.
Try flying to other destinations like Istanbul, Athens, Frankfurt, Rome and then making your own way across to London via a budget airline. You will see some very nice places along the way.
You sound knowledgeable.
What route would you go? Seen any good prices for london flights lately?
Well I would avoid London altogether as I don't like it. But that's just me. If you haven't been to Europe before and have plenty of time and money behind you, I'd fly into Istanbul and then backpack the whole way across to London. Eastern Europe is my favourite, highly recommended.
I haven't seen any good flights to London because I haven't looked. I am living in Amsterdam now, so no need. But return to London, you shouldn't be paying more than $2000. Book far enough in advance and off-season, you could find them for about 1500.
I find it is usually cheaper the go to mainland Europe than England but by the time you factor in time and cost of train, car hire or additional flights to get to London you may as well just fly direct. Best prices are from now till end of June but that is return, I am not sure about one way…
Good luck!
